    Default Trim Tabs

Old skiff did not have trim tabs, new skiff will. What are your opinions on trim tabs? Do they affect backing?

I was one of the first guys to install 'em on the 218 DLV. I loved mine. They worked well for nosing my bow down to soften the ride in the chop. Also good for listing your boat in a quartering sea - softens the ride and keep you dry. As for backing (hitting bottom) - you won't need to deploy them in shallow water, so no worries there.

Fully Adjustable trim tabs are outstanding !

Smart Tabs provide a nice Hole pattern to use when replacing them with REAL tabs

The Trim Tabs that come standard on the boat are not adjustable. That's why I am curious about backing, especially off of the trailer.

Another concern about those type tabs is they are down in a relaxed state. When moving forward they retract from the pressure of the water.

It has been noted here in the past that one guy had run his boat aground. When getting pulled off the bar the tabs were pushing down against the bottom and was ripped from the boat from the backward motion.

Just thought I would mention that so you can keep that in mind should anyone ever try to move backwards while the tabs are touching bottom.
