Default Boat and utility trailer tags in NC

Just got my license tag re-newal form from the NC Dept. of Motor Vehicles and before taking to the license tag renewal location this time, I called the NC DMV and asked about permanent tags. Always before I just paid the $19 per year and put on the new sticker. The lady said yes, you can get permanent tags for your boat and/or utility trailer and the cost is $75 per tag (but not for motor vehicles). Didn't know how many of you guys here in North Carolina know about this, but if you plan on keeping your boat trailer or a utililty trailer for 4 or more years, the permanent tags are the way to go if you can afford the $75 pop. Hope this helps someone out there.

Thanks. I remember when the permanent trailer tag option became available, because I was in charge of licensing a fleet of tractor-trailers at the time. I just never thought of it for my boat trailer.

Thanks for the info I just bought mine in oct so I plan on keeping it for awhile. Do you just go to the dmv and ask for it?

    Bob,
I haven't been in to my local DMV office to get the tag yet, but that's what the lady in Raleigh told me when I called to ask about the permanent tags. My tag expires in April (next month), so that's what I plan to do, just ask for a permanent tag. Hope the lady in Raleigh isn't wrong.
