I got quotes of around $3300 for a Wesco tandem with torsion axles, led lights, and brakes on one axle from two different skiff dealers.

I've been looking at TNT Boat trailers. They look pretty sweet and I got a quote of $2600 for the same features as the Wesco above.

My boat just rides horribly on a single axle. I feel every bump, etc in the road. I've got too much weight in it. Not sure I want to fork over the money though for a tandem. Would have to sell my single axle first at least.

Gut, I bought a Wesco tandem w/brakes when I bought my Skiff two years ago. I "traded up" from the "stock" galvanized single, and the difference was quoted at $800 at one dealer and $900 at the other--both Wescos. I don't know what an "outright" price on a trailer w/out a boat was, but maybe this will help. Both dealers were in central NC. One of the dealers might take your single on trade if it is still in good shape.

Sorry, Bent. You posted at the same time as me with probably better info than I was providing.

I will add, however, that I am very glad I went with a tandem. It makes a heck of a difference in how the boat pulls. I tow with a "undersized" truck, and hardly know the tandem is back there. Stopping is the real test. The brakes make a huge difference, and on several occasions I am glad I have had them. It was well worth the $800 extra for the upgrade. Course if you are having to completely replace the trailer and have full price, that may make a difference.

I have a 218 DLV. I bought a 2009 Wesco aluminum with brakes. It is single axle but it is a 3600lbs axle not the small one. it has 15 inch rims not 14.

it cost $2735. I didn't buy from a site sponser so if you want the dealer pm me.

Hi gut

Just taking a page from frugal dad.

Seems to me that trailers are an assembly of parts. I recall that there are only two major mfgrs for trailer axles. You may be able to change out leaf springs or an entire torsion axle and keep the frame. Or, if the frame fits, buy a used one for the axle.

I did a search on Wesco, but only found industrial trailers.

I looked into adding an axle to mine, but Jeremy at Wesco said I needed at least 80in of straight frame in order to fit two axles. My single only has about 72in or so of straight frame, I think.

just so everyone knows,i do not have a tow vehicle problem, its a 2500 HD duramax chevy,i can stop and pull the skiff all day and not know its there but...

i have already had to replace both tires, wore out both tires on the inside and i measured the tongue weight and i am at 375lb with the transom right at the edge of the bunks, the trailer tag says 3600,i figure the boat an all my gear is right at 3000(5 batteries,1 trolling motor,2 chargers,27 gallons of gas,600 ft of anchor and chain),that is with no water in either bait well,1 is 50 gallons and the other is 20..

if you look at the trailer there is a very distinct bow in the trailer,so i am not sure a heavier axle will do the trick,i have looked at that idea but don't want to waste another 500 and not fix the problem..

as bad as i do not want 4 tires and wheels i am afraid i have no option...*surrender*

I love the brakes. I can stop faster and shorter with my boat behind me than with just the truck (ABS). I hate the ABS.

My 218 DLV came with a single axle / no brakes Road King. After a year I purchased a tandem axle, Galvanized, E-Z Loader with brakes on one axle - what a change for the better. Paid right at $3000. Sold the 1year old Road King on this website for something like $300 - priced so low just to get it out of the yard ASAP.

IMHO - the new trailer was the best "Mod" I have done to the boat.

I had same issue, axle was installed upside down. Yes, there is a correct way for that installation. Contact your mfg. and don't give up. Took me over 3 years till they fixed the thing. You and I are not the only folks who have had this problem.
Sorry for the derail. I'd love to have a new Wesco Alum Tan myself.

375 lbs sounds like a lot of tounge weight. I'm not familiar with the design of your trailer. Is it possible to slide your axle forward?

A bow eh. Tires wore out on an '07. Sounds like a bigger problem than just the ride.

$3k is a wad, but if my trailer's bent, its pocket change compared to an accident that sends someone under the knife.

removed some items off the boat, slide it back on the trailer, tongue weight is now 250-275lbs,the tires even look better and the bow/dip is gone,i will monitor the new tires and see how they wear..

*006* I guess that I am on the lookout for a tandem axle trailer as well. Really can't afford a new one, but I am pushing the envelope towing a 21 foot dlv on a single axle trailer, with a nissan frontier. *fingerscrossed*
