View Full Version : Where Do You Like To Fish
Okay fellows, when you go fishing, where do you most like to go.
My preference is the broad area between Cape Lookout and Emerald Isle, inshore and nearshore (out to about 5 miles with seas 2-4 feet or less). On days with seas greater than 2-4 feet, I'll usually stay inside and fish around the Cape or Beaufort Inlets, behind Shackleford Banks, near the Beaufort Draw Bridge or High Rise Bridge, the areas around the Marshes, (Middle, Haystacks, Carrot Island and Marshes near the Cape) or one of several channels and holes around the Beaufort/Morehead City Waterfront. I'm not able to take advantage of the inside marsh fishing here yet but will once I get a trolling motor on board.
On real nice days, (read: seas 1 foot or less) I plan to go out as far as 35 miles and am most familiar with the waters between the Atlas Tanker and the South (Hutton) Wreck and out to the 90 Foot Drop.
I've fished the Neuse River (mostly around New Bern) and Slocum and Hancock Creeks, mostly near the creek mouths leading into the river, for flounder and specks. Fished the South River (off the Neuse) only once - many years ago - but would like to know it better. There are a lot of good marsh areas in these creeks and like I mentioned above, a trolling motor will let me explore and fish these areas much better.

Ok fellas-
I mostly fish the creeks off the Neuse River between New Bern and the Pamlico Sound. I started fishing them about 16 years ago with a homemade one-man boat. As I aged, my boats grew. The largest boat I've owned is my 180CC Sea Pro (which is being replaced with a 218 DLV), so my offshore experience is limited. I've been out as far as the Atlas Tanker (my buddies boat) fishing for Kings; however, I'm familiar with other wrecks in the area because I'm a certified scuba diver (it's been a while). Trips to the Atlas Tanker and the need for more room (to accommodate my boys) prompted my wanting a larger boat that I can use both inshore and offshore. Can't wait to pickup that 218.
Bottom Line: I love to fish anywhere. I noticed that Koolj is holding a very nice Crappie in one of his pictures - Koolj my wife and I love to fish for Crappie, if you'll take us Crappie fishing she will love me forever! :P

Ditto on the crappie fishing Will. Haven't seriously fished for crappie since my youthful days in Missouri. Having said that, the biggest crappies I've ever caught have been in Tucker Creek, off Slocuum, in March I think the month was. My wife likes any kind of fishing, as long as the waves are little to none - she thinks she can't swim - I tell her she just hasn't had a proper motivating experience yet - but I'm gonna teach her some day 008

That crappie came from High Rock Lake - we are having a social there Saturday - not a lot of good crappie fishing down East I know of - I have been told about the Rock Quarry in Maysville has some good crappie and then in the rivers up around the Va Line - of course Jordan and Falls near Raleigh
if I ever get around New Port I am going to the salt - but if you are ever going towards the Peidmont Area let me we will try to get something up

I fish out of Swansboro 15 to 20 times a year. My folks live up there and my dad has gotten to the age where he doesn't want to trailer or maintain a boat anymore. It is my pleasure to take the man out who got me hooked on fishing 30+ years ago. :)
We'll fish anywhere from MHC down to the New River. Mostly though Bogue, Bear, Browns inlet and anywhere in between. All my fishing trips are on weekends and boat traffic can be terrible, have found productive waters in Camp Lejuene and traffic isn't a problem.
I'm in the process of getting a CS in the next couple of weeks and looking forward to getting back up there. Usually by the beginning of March you can find some trout that don't have lockjaw and not shake and shivver why you try to catch them.I'd like to join the CCC of CSO. 003 I'll show you my honey hole if you show me yours. ;D

An area I only last year started to became familiar - slightly. Good lookin’ area with an abundance of channels and marshes. For inshore waters, it’s some of the best I’ve seen along the Crystal Coast.

If you like crappie then you need to visit me here at Lake Wateree SC. We were listed in SC Sportsman mag. as one of the top lakes for crappie 011
in the state. I like to fish for them but they are not my love. Now if its stripers you want then we can play ball.I fish lake murray,Santee, Wateree,Clarks hill, and pretty much anywhere they go. I have begun to expand my fishing to the big pond for everything from kings to reds.Still learning though 001. I will make a deal If someone helps me learn to fish salt water better, then I will show them the tricks of the trade on big stripers ;D. any takers just let me know.

Srike hold,
I'll be visiting Wateree in May (weekend of the 3rd.). My sister is graduating from Coker College, so I'm gonna try to find a nice rental house at Wateree for the celebration. Do have any recommendations for this? I was going to stay at the Air Force Rec, but someone has the entire park reserved. 006

You may be in luck 010 my father owns quite a few rentals on the lake. let me see if I can help. If not though your best bet will be in Camden.
If you want someone to show you the lake just give me a shout. 011 I wolud love to help. maybe even have a few 012 012. My home is right here at the lake. hope to talk to you soon. ;D
Will, I think you best ask for a couple more days leave, my friend – sounds like a deal too good to refuse. 010 010 010
Strike, that’s exactly what we’re all about. I’d be glad to learn ya whatever I know about salt water fishing. You just let me know when you wanna come down. For my part of it, I’d sure like to learn about using planer boards and making them part of my arsonal for kings, and general offshore trolling. Used to run outriggers on a different boat but I’m not gonna put anything like that on my skiff. Maybe a downrigger or two, which I have some experience with already. 012

1st sgt. I would be glad to run some boards with you 010 If you ever have the time and would not mind a extra man aboard let me know. I will bring all my gear and let you get 1st hand action with them. You could also show me a few tricks 011 013 012
Great, I’m sure there are a few more here at the CCC-CSO that might want in on that lesson too. We've all got differing experiences and I'm willing to bet they can show you and me (both) some tricks. I'm countin' on it. Might be a little tough to do right now but if you happen to be coming to the coast anyway, I'll try my best to make time to get out with you. Just give me a shout and a day or two notice, will ya? This would be a perfect topic to discuss, with maybe a little hands-on training, at one of our group meetings. 003

Srike hold,
I’m definitely interested in the rentals. I grew up in Hartsville, but the Corps has me on the coast, where I plan to stay. I love it here, man. I'll PM you my phone number and email address. I think I might try to head your way the Wed prior to the graduation - We'll hook up, kick down a few brews, and put a dent in the fish population at Wateree.
