When does the flounder start to show in the bays?
I think I what to try at trip then to your neck of the woods.

They can start to show anytime when the water starts to warm in the spring Charlie, but I don't usually target them until sometime in June or even later, when the bigger fish arrive in decent numbers.

agree that water temps have to be warm (summer months) before they come in thick. my oppinion is to fish the bay July/Aug timeframe.

Hmmmm strange,
We get the bigger one's in the back bays up here in NJ around May .... *006*
Sometimes as early as April, but the season has been getting pushed back later each year. Last year it was mid to late May before you could target them.

The summer's when we caught ours in the Chesapeake. Had to put 'em back though, they have to be 19 inches before you can keep one. I didn't go gigging this year, cause I couldn't figure out how to measure the flounder before I gigged it. rotflmao

Always had good luck at Hatteras Memorial day weekend and from then through the middle to late October. It seems like the further south you go, the later the fish begin to turn on (Carolina Beach area it best from mid June till Thanksgiving). If I could only go flounder fishing one time, it would have to be the middle of June at Hatteras. Been doing that for over 30 years and unless bad weather sets in, that's been the best time for me.
Others may have different opinions *surrender* and I guess a lot depends on how and where you fish, tackle and bait used and whether you really fish or just go out on the water to mess around. I love to fish, not just mess around*thumbsup*.

Charlie,
I've had my best success with flounder from mid May till mid June and then again during October. You can catch them all summer long, just seems like I catch bigger ones at the beginning and the end of the season *006* *014*

We catch keeper sized flounder in the Neuse creeks in the spring while trout fishing, the larger flounder don't usually show up in the tidal waters until May. But these are all bycatch flounder we catch while targeting redfish.
