NEM,
I'm getting one with my boat. I hope it will hold up for 5 - 10 years! I take good care of my stuff i.e. washdown after each use and grease bearings as needed.

You must be getting your boat from Bayracer Marine.I got mine last year from their.I have a Venture Trailer.I Upgraded to a duel axle trailer also.It has the surge brakes.I wanted the extra weight handling for t-top,trolling motor, etc.The only thing I did to the trailer so far is, I added an extra bar to the front bow stop for added support. One of the tail lights blowed (replaced bulb),So I probally am going to replace those one day with LED.Like you said I wash mine at a car wash after every trip on the way home.It comes with the buddy bearings so I just check those before every trip.I grease them about every third trip.

BrokeBeach5011,
How much did he trailer upgrade cost you? If you don't mind telling. I've been reading a lot about the 218 and single axle trailers. It seems that everyone recommmends the dual axle trailer. What is the major hang-up with the single axle trailer?

The trailer that he was going to put under the boat was rated at 2750# The boat, plus motor is around 2100# by the numbers. It's probally okay, but when you start putting lots of gear,t-top, batteries, trolling motor, gas, etc., it adds up quik.So I upgraded to the VAT-4000.Plus you have brakes. The figure he gave me on paper was the exact same price but I believe John told me around $300 extra.

Will,
You're right there at the big puddle so unless you're trailering to somewhere's else the axle might not be a major concern. For me, I gotta travel 250 miles to get to MHC so the dual axle with brakes was a must have. The upgrade may enhance your ability for resale later on to someone that does travel the distances to go fishing. JUst my $.02

Harry - Thanks,
How did you do that? Are Bait Cutters allowed to add link-backs?

Geeky Computer Tricks: ;D
Yes, you can insert links. There's a couple of ways to point to a topic; Go to the target forum, click on the topic, then copy the link from the address bar in your browser. Paste it later. If you want to drive someone to a specific posting, then right click on the heading above the posting (as you're looking at my current post it would say 'Re: Aluminum Venture Trailer') then click on 'Copy Shortcut' from the pop-up menu. Paste it later.

Yup just follow what Shakespeare said.
And at the right your posting (thats a good thing) you won't be a bait cutter for long, and a captain member before you know it .... ;D

Brokebeach5011,
I like your rig. I'm gonna see what it will take to put my boat on a trailer like yours. So far John has been straight and fair with me, so we'll see how the trailer upgrade goes.

Shakespeare,
Good points! - Kinda what I was thinking too. I think I'll check into an upgrade. I like the way Brokebeach5011's boat sits on his trailer.

Brokebeach,
Does your trailer have drum or disc brakes? And, is it equipped with washdown piping (kit) for the brakes?

Disk Brakes, and no on the washdown.Make sure you have the reservoir full of brake fluid. And make sure you ask him if they have been bleed. It will slam when you start and stop if its low and air in the lines..

Go with the tandem trailer if you can. Having the brakes is great. I've got the Wesco trailer. One thing I had to do was fix the side boards on the trailer. They are mounted with screws to hold them to the fenders. One of mine came off coming back from Florida last year. Luckily I had an extra bungee cord in the truck to secure it til I got back. I replaced all the screws with stainless bolts with the no slip nuts(have nylon on the inside of them). Haven't had any trouble since.

I got the Venture trailer with my 198DLV. I feel the trailer is good quality however I wish I had the dual axle. Main reason is the tongue weight with the single axle. I have moved the Axle as far forward as I dare to and the tongue weight is still too heavy for my taste.
