What's up Carolina Skiff owners,
I have a 2008 218 DLV with a DF140 HP Suzuki on order. I hope to get it in a week or two. This will be my first CS. I decided to buy one after my buddy took me out in his - LOTS OF ROOM. Plus, I have two sons that are 12 and 15 and they both like to fish with me (which makes me very happy), so I decided to buy the 218 DLV for sanity sake! My current boat is a 180CC Sea Pro. I'm gonna put it in the boat trader in the spring. I look forward to learning the do's and don'ts about CS, and sharing my CS experiences with the rest of you. I'm gonna post a question in the DLV section, so please navigate over there and help me out!

Koolj,
Thanks for the welcome. I lived in Mt. Pleasant for a few years when I was in high school. Hot chicks and nice beaches... That was years ago.

Welcome Red,
I bought a 2007 198 DLVw/90 Suzuki in March of last year (my first CS) loved it so much I went ahead and sold it already, only to put down a deposit on a 238 DLV w/140 Suzuki .... ;D
Boat should be ready for pick up end of the month or Feb. Where you getting yours from? I went with Chatlee's.
Welcome to the best CS site on the web !!!

Howdy Will,
I think you made an excellent choice on the 218 DLV. I've got a 140 Suz on mine as well and I really like it for adaptability of the local waters. I chose the 27 gal tank and glad I did, cause I like to venture offshore on pretty days we sometimes get here. Having only a couple of 16-20 mile offshore trips under my belt so far, (with the CS) I had plenty of fuel to spare, but was mostly drift fishing over a wreck with the motor cut or at idle all the while I was on site. I expect to need more fuel for trips offshore to more distant places (I'm partial to a few areas near the Atlas Tanker and around and east of the 14 Buoy). I like to combine offshore trips between trolling and bottom fishing, but sometimes I just like to anchor up on a "fishy" bottom and set out a couple of balloons or drift a cigar minnow or ballyhoo in the current while we bottom fish and enjoy the morning loafing and catching what's hungry. Locating and trolling the weed lines is also a favorite - for dolphin, wahoo, and the ocassional tuna. The 218 should be reasonably manageable in 2-4 foot seas in the nearshore (3-10 miles out) areas favored for kings, spanish, alberts, cobia, and AJ's, and I expect to put her to the test come spring/early summer.
For the days we can't get outside, the 218 shines in the inshore waters - my favorite area is between the Cape and Morehead City waterfront, though I've put in a few times down around Swansboro. I'm just beginning to learn the marsh areas I've mostly neglected/overlooked with the two deep-V boats I've previously owned.

Dave,
Most of my local fishing experience is in the creeks off the Neuse River (trout, red's, bass, flounder, & stripers). I have fished a few times for King's in the same areas you mentioned, but I'm fairly new to the offshore waters. Offshore fishing (for Kings) was one of the reasons I decided to buy the 218 DLV (needed more room). But like you mentioned, you have to pick your days for fishing offshore in a skiff, which is fine with me because I'm hooked on inshore fishing. It requires less resources and time.
Thanks for the insight on the 218 DLV.
