View Full Version : Homemade Underwater Lights.
I though this was pretty cool even if it is posted on another forum. I am posting it here in hopes that we can get some enjoyment out of a resourceful member on another forum.

I finally had a chance to go through all the postings on that light. That guy has created quite an enterprise for himself. Imagine coming up with a simple idea and all of a sudden getting flooded with requests and turning it into a business. That's got me thinking that one of those lights would be great for flounder gigging. They're rugged, solid state, low power, and have a long life. My conventional incandescent filament based light sure takes a beating when its' stowed in the forward hatch and I'm running through the chop. You wouldn't have to worry about that with LEDs. Thanks Mike!
No problem Mike. For me the idea is to mount some suction cups to it so I can just attache them to the hull just under the water line when I am at drift or setup over a wreck or reef. Two for each side of the boat and two in the back. Would also be great for when I go shrimping.

Loki,
Did you say shrimping from your skiff at night, talk to us, how do you do it. 006 Using bait (what kind) or does the light attract them? Using a cast net or dip? Please don't me hanging. 008 Remeber I'am new to salt. Thanks. 012

During the shrimp run on the indian river you pretty much just setup under a bridge or anywhere else the water flow funnels and just dip them. The lights are said to attract them, whether they do or don't they make it handy so you can see em. The limit is 5 gallons per person or vessel per day.

5 gallons??? Now that makes some sense! Here in NC it's 100 per person per day. I guess you'd have to dump them on the deck and get out your abacus to figure out how many you can take home. Sheesh!

Here in SC it is a 48 quart cooler in possession, heads on. I eats a lot of cocktails (coleman on board and it's boiling before we are done baiting)......... can't count what's in your tummy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And lights scare 'em here, an if you get caught in the center or blocking a "runout" spot, F&G gonna burn you. NET PERIOD they say here, 5/8 net opening too, I'd be missing small sharks this year past, (next time ya'll eat one, measure the begger, ya'll see what I mean!!!!!) kinda glad I didn't spend the 500 bucks to go this year, an that's KOA folks.....

Hey Reggie, is that limit per person or per boat?
Thanks,
Mike

Once in a while while fishing for bull redfish under the bridge here we also hang a chum bag off the side and play with a few small sharks to kill the time. Quite often, we get a bunch of shrimp that decide they also like the chum bag and we just reach over and dip them up with the bait net. Not enough here to fill a 5 gallon bucket (I wish) but it keeps us in fresh bait, it might be worth while trying to "bait" some to the boat during the big run down that way.....
