My best ever striper season continues.
Got a late start (that's another story), anchored up at 12:30 at the same spot I fished Wednesday in 17' of 50 degree water. First fish on before the 4th bunker bait was in the water. Unfortunately, I wasn't ready and although I got the fish (about 40") to the boat, it spit the hook while I was looking for the gaff. I know from experience that trying to net these fish one handed when the tide is running hard is an exercise in futility.
Fish #2 came along in another 25 minutes and this time, a 44" fish was on the deck. After a lull and a lunch break, fish #3 (38") hit the deck around 3:15. Since I wanted to get home to clean up before dark, I skipped the bonus fish option.
Fishing alone makes it a big challenge to get these cows into the boat, but being retired sure makes it easy to take advantage of the short weather windows that NOAA grants us.
Maybe Monday
