New years Eve here in Corpus Christi was perfect fishing weather, low to mid 70s, bluebird skies, and winds less than 5 mph. We get days like this maybe a couple times a year! Took my 9 year old and the Skiff to the boat ramp closest to the house(6 minutes) but was dismayed to find no live bait.Luckily there are a couple of other bait stands close to the area we frequently fish in the winter, when we arrived there we found plenty of live shrimp, and it was ON! My son flubbed his first cast and his leader fell into the water a mere 15 feet from the boat, I told him he wasnt going to catch anything that close to the boat, about that time his rod bent over and he looked at me with that "I told you so" look, while he proceeded to bring a nice flounder to the net. After I got dome removeing the hook, and got the fish in the box, he was rebited and redeployed to the same spotand within seconds had a 18" trout onthe line. This sequence of events replayed two more times before I ever got a hook in the water, and shamelessly potlicked his lucky hole. We ended up with 14 trout and the flounder before we ran out of bait, with many throwbacks along the way!
