Redfish

I'm mostly a weekend fisherman. I start looking at the weather and tides every week about Wednesday hoping to get all the things in my favor, or at least "tolerable." Got one of those days yesterday that you just gotta love: North wind less than 10, clear skies, highs predicted to be low to mid 70s. Low tides in the AM is what I like, especially if its a "minus" tide.
Me and my youngest son hit the water yesterday about 9ish. The morning low was at 6:30, so I missed the lowest part of the range. I was a bit disgusted when I got to my favorite creek and found all the bars covered and the tide was ripping in. The fishing started out slow too. First two stops, and all we could get to bite were yellow tails (these are little "bait snatching" perch that are not really eatable and are a nuisance). I did manage one small flounder and a little sheepshead.
We kept at it. Next spot, a nice little bar that sticks out into the creek with a sharp drop off at its end, began to be productive. I took a very nice convict, a nice-size flounder, and my son caught one keeper red.

On up the creek. A few more small reds and three trout. We broke for lunch just before the tide turned out. I kept telling my son that when the tide turned, I thought the trout would bite. My son lost a couple of nice redfish at our lunch-break hole, so we sat and waited. As the tide began to turn, the trout turned on. At one point we were hooking up every cast on some very nice specks--the kind you don't have to measure to tell they are legal. We quickly filled the rest of our ten-fish trout limit and caught enough extras to sort out some smaller fish. Then, in typical trout fashion, they quit biting as quickly as they had turned on. Here is one of the 10 specks we kept and a medium size "fluke.":

We finished the day with a few more reds--not big ones, but enough slot-size fish that we had our two keepers for the day. All-in-all, a perfect day in my book: great weather, plenty of fish, and good memories. Here are a few pics of the "mess" of fish I got to clean this morning.
