Haven't seen any inhore reports here lately, I don't have anything to brag about but I'm keeping the skunk off the boat. I've been getting out once or twice a week for the last month before or after work. Trying to hit the first or last hour of daylight for some speckled trout. I'd probably catch a few more fish if I could tear myself away from throwing a topwater plug, but I just can't do it. I've managed to get one or two each trip and that's good enough for me.
Had a little more time on the water yesterday afternoon so I castnetted some mullet and shrimp (which are still plentiful in the little tidal creeks) and fished for some flounder along some docks on the ICW behind Oak Island. Found a pair of keepers using mullet on a carolina rig and got one trout on a skitterwalk just before sunset.
These guys are between 17" and 19", just right for the dinner table.

Thanks for the info. Greg. The wife and I are heading out to MCH this weekend for two weeks of fishing. Hopefully the inshore bite will be on in that area. Isn't that far from Holden Beach up to MHC by water, so hopefully the bite will be about the same.

We usually fish live or cut bait for flounder and trout. It's interesting to me that you fish top water most of the time (I like it too). I've caught trout, reds and small blues on top, but do you really catch flounder on top water? Never had one hit on top. Catch a lot of them on lead head jigs with white plastic flukes though.

Nice job. Its hard to put down the topwater. I made myself throw a 1/4 oz jighead last Saturday. I haven't thrown a 1/4 oz in over a year, I'm so used to throwing the lighter stuff in shallow water. But I needed a little extra distance to reach some fish, and thankfully they were aggressive enough where presentation didn't matter.

Nice catching Gregg*thumbsup*. The only way I found to keep from pitching a topwater is to make sure I leave them at home. If one is on the boat....it's gonna get wet!!!

Awsome Gunnar... from your reports, it looks like you've been eating well this fall *Cheers*

I lost my best topwater plug to a bluefish a few weeks ago, but I still have a few untested ones left... just in case someone (with a smaller skiff) invites me to do some back water fishing ;D

Good luck fishing this weekend, it's a great time of year to be out there. The speckled trout bite is as good as it gets during November.*014*
I did catch a flounder last year on a topwater and it came completely out of the water to hit it. rotflmao I like to use live bait for flounder(though the biggest I've caught came on a GULP shrimp). Bunker aka; pogy or menhaden is my favorite but mullet, pinfish, or croaker work to. I don't catch a lot of flounder but the ones I do are usually keepers.
When I target trout I usually use artificials, when the water gets a little colder(was 67* yesterday) I'll switch to soft plastics and sub-surface hard baits.

Where can I get the CSO stickers? Thanks

One of these days I may divulge my 'secret sauce' for catching cold-water specs but don't wait for that.....get out there and FISH!!!!!!rotflmao

Dan, you are getting here at a perfect time for fishing and I am sure you will have a great time. The water is cooling, the bait is moving out and the fish are hungry. Hope you and the wife have a fantastic vacation.
*Cheers*

Gregg:

Any reports of late? Headed down to Shallotte for the weekend and from what I read on here you are the Brunswick county expert. Don't know if I will get to take the boat or not as this is a "family" trip *kickrock*, but if the bite is hot I will figure out something...

I haven't been fishing to much lately but when I do , I've been catching a few. Went out last Thursday afternoon for an hour and half and fooled two 18" specks into biting a topwater. I saw a couple of redfish up in the grass but they were out of reach. If the weather is nice it's worth trying. The water was still warm on Thursday 62*. We've had some cool days and nights that should have dropped the temp. some which should help the speck bite. The upper 50's seems to be the most productive temp for me to catch trout, just remember to slow down your retrieve on artificials.

I'll be up in Swansboro for the holiday trying my luck up there.

Well, went boatless to OIB area for the weekend, but still managed to do some fishing. Thursday morning was a good morning. Caught about a dozen blues and 7-8 flounder all 13-18". Thought it was just about too late for these guys, but apparently no one told the flounder. Caught two more Thursday evening. Friday evening was a skunk. All fish caught on Gulp! shrimp.
