Any of you guys fish the Wachapreague/Quinby area in the spring/early summer?
I've been going to the Hampton Roads Bridge tunnel for the past few years, catching all the BIG hard heads you want but only a few keeper flounder. Heard Wachapreague is the place for that and looking for somebody who's been to "follow" around and learn the area a bit. Any takers? Any advise? Looking to go late May/early June.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks Randell. I do check the tidelfish site fairly often but thought I would try here first. I understand the concerns for the fishery. Last year, 3 of us in one afternoon caught AT LEAST over 100 flounder and my boat was back on the trailer at 3 that afternoon, 1 21" keeper. There were 3 guys fishing right along side of us who said they had commerical license and anything and I mean anything that came into their boat went in the box and I'm for sure some of them were under their 14" mim keeper limit for commercial guys. To top it off, they drifted out and started cleaning the fish, right there on the water in the boat, got done, came back and continued to fish. I'm not sure about Va. but here, you're going to jail for that and need too IMHO. If rec fisherman have 19" limit, the commercials need to have it as well, Va. N.C., anywhere.
Thanks again. Sorry for my worthless 2 cents but this sh!t pisses me off.

For conservation of the sport and species, you have to turn these guys in to the local game warden and let the warden decide if they have a commercial liscense.

Belive me Slab, I looked for one. All you usually see in that area are Navy patrol boats or the big Coast Guard cutters. Hardly never a game warden around. Still, a 5" difference between a rec and comm guy is just not right and besides, a 14" flounder IMHO, is still to small to keep anyway.

Hello biker dude, I fish about 4 miles below wachapreague. If you check you chart it is hog island bay. Just started fishing there this past year. but I my boss fishes wach. in the spring. If you want to get together on line or landline let me konw. I think I did ok my first year in those waters.

Yeah man, that would be great. Looks now like towards the end of May as I've got a chance that just popped up for a Bahamas trip 2nd week in June. We fished last week in May last year at Hampton Rds and killed em, all small but LOTs of flatties. We heard before we left they were catching big ones at Wach. so the time could be right if the weather is.
I'll drop you a line.

OK, may will be a little late for most of the door mats but can still be pretty good flatties. Aug last year had tarpen rolling in the bay . was not ready for that, but something to see .
