Don't know where you purchased redfish, but I believe it is illegal to sell Redfish since they were declared a sportfish years ago (after the blackened redfish craze). Nothing wrong with buying it, (specially when you're hungry, lol).....but I think someone could get in a bit of trouble for selling it if it was a fish market.
Some fine eatin' ......

Chit gittin BAD,
but them commie gill netters CAN sell a LOT of fish. As almost ALL mine comes out of NC, well, I dont know the rules in NC, but I can snap pics of WAY UNDER flounder, an the guy has king, spanish, flounder, croaker, mullit, bonito, clams, oyste rs,shrimp, scallops, etc. I can actuall place an order with him, an hes got a LEGAL TIKIT for everything he sells. (Ive asked to see them, an although I aint no expert, iz eatin fish an such) An he gots them))

Yeah, it's still legal to sell redfish in NC, not sure exactly the rules, but it's something like 5 fish per day as a bycatch not to exceed 50% of your total catch for commercial fishermen.

OK, I guess the Redfish Ban Prez. Bush signed in 2007 was only in Federal Waters? I was under the impression it prevented the sale of redfish period.

hoo boy,
Yup, the redfish is sure tastey,
BUT
If this guy is toting the fish, HOW IS HE DOING IT??? If its not legal, anyway.
Mabe we need to move this out onto the deck party Chum, git a few more folk involved. Feel free to cut an paste MR moderator. If this guy is runnin fish illieagle, mabe he needs a visit from DNR.
I do like redfish, but not enuf ta help out nobody bustin the law. I only take what we kin eat.
Move it an I'll add more.
It is legal for a commercial fisherman with a valid comm license to sell their redfish to fish houses and the fish houses ship most of the catch out of state. It is illegal for NC comms to target reds, reds are caught and sold as bycatch, mainly from our flounder fishery. A comm must have at least 50% of his weight of a targeted species onboard if he has reds in his box. The NC commercial quota is 250,000 lbs each season, and after that quota is reached, no more reds may be sold. Last year, the bycatch redfish fishery was shut down in November and the new season didn't start until May 1st of the next year.
The bycatch red fishery here has been split into 2 seasons: May 1st to Aug 31st - 100,000 lbs and Sept 1st to Dec 31st? (I think) - 150,000 lbs.
There was a proclamation last year that comms may only have 4 reds per day on the boat and I think the 4-reds-a-day rule is still in effect.
So if your SC fishhouse bought the reds from an NC broker (most likely), he is well within the law.
Pres Bush made redfish in federal waters (3 miles and out) gamefish, meaning no sale of federally caught reds. But the states still have jurisdiction within their waters, and NC has not declared reds "gamefish" status at this time, so they may still be bought and sold.

that red cost me a whoppin 8 bucks. this Fri I am going down there with a camera, short fish FILL big ol coolers, flounder, reds, alantic salmon, croaker, etc.
If I can buy short fish, what does that sayfor the rules??????
MIGHT tell me, that the rules ONLY apply to me and all my friends on here...... the rod and reel folk, how is THAT POSSIBLE??????????????????????

commercial guys keep 15'' snapper, Rec. guys must be 16''.Just an example guys of Fla. law and how it may apply.Am always astonished at how many people ,just do'nt care. They want to keep everything,an local example ,You can not scallop in st.Andrew Bay,yet an handful of locals are busted yearly.Or,your buddy fished the am with an limit, went back for an pm limit, do you turn him in?As far as commercial vs.Rec well,NAFTA did as much harm to the fisheries, whereas Mexico ships 9'' flounder all over the states.which in turn makes it even harder on the commercial guys to sell their catch.
