What's up fellas,
New to the site. I have a 16ft. skiff with a 30hp Suzuki tiller motor. Would like to put center council steering in boat, but wasn't sure if you could convert a tiller motor. Does anyone know if this can be done?
Any help would be great.
Thanks, ED

Sure can
I see in your other post you want to add a CC. Thats a good start and to do this once you have the console picked out , you would need to rig it with steering, run the steering cable, throttle cable/shift cables, & wiring, such as battery, ingintion, and starter wires.
Of course you would need some type of cable run or cover board to conceal the cables.

Thanks for the info Harry. Can't wait to get started on her. I noticed your from good old N.J. Where abouts do you fish? I fish in Absecon Bay, and Great Bay.

No problem Ed.

I used to launch at Seaview ave boat ramp in Linwood, & fish from Somers point (Kennedy park area), all the way to behind Ventnor and Lakes bay.

I now keep my boat in a slip in Lakes bay and can be found anywhere mentioned above, including Absecon bay and inlet.

I just sold my 198 DLV and will be getting the 238 DLV with 140 Suzuki.

You from the area?

I have a 30 hp tohatsu tiller on a cs j16 that I converted to remote steering at center console that I put on boat. Needs to be electric start motor. Kit to convert is simple and not expensive. You will still have to manuel choke but that is no problem to me as I only need it on the first crank of the day and I do not have the console and my swivel seat too far away. Works great. I got a boat mechanic to do mine, but if you are skilled could do it yourself. bob

Thanks again for the info guys. Harry, i'm down around smithville area. Probably done for the season, unless some of those 50 degree days come around again. I'll keep an eye out this spring for that 23ftr.

What up Harry. I think i heard about this site on the bass barn. And far from retirement. Forgot to ask ya; do you know who i can go to for the cc conversion? Also the tiller motor conversion? I used to be a mechanic, so doing it myself shouldn't be a problem. Also how did you make out this year on the stripers?

I saw some console in my latest boaters world catalog, kind of generic looking but could fit the bill. They should be able to get the cables and controls too. Probably the cheapest route. If not you would have to contact the engine dealer for controls, I guess.
Lots of places on line for them too but shipping a console would be $$$

I would try Chestnut neck boat yard in Port Republic They're near you, plus they're a Suzuki dealer. With all the boats their, they might even have an old console to sell you. I did see one for sale a while back on the barn.

For the stripers I didn't get out as much as I'd have like too. I was busy helping coach our towns JV football team.

I did get out about 5 times for stripers and went 1 for 5 but the day we got into them, we got'em real good.

Hope this helps.

I read through the thread and here's the deal, plus he has pictures in the link above

49" wide 48" Deep 60" high to the stainless rail aruond the wind shield. The windshield is brand new and it has some minor stress spidring all in all in good shape. The reason for taking it out I am putting in an alluminum pilot house. Make an honest offer the wind shield was $45.00.

Thanks for the link Harry. Might be alittle to big for my 16ftr. I'm probably gonna try Chestnutneck since they're are right down the road. Also gonna check Steves Deepwater Marine in Somerspoint. I'll keep ya posted on how i make out.

Thanks again
