The temperture actually dropped below 70* last night *003* and a northeast wind today.*010* It's time for the mullet to start heading down the beaches with the predators right behind them.

I'll be in Swansboro this weekend looking to catch a couple of those predators.*014* Anybody else going to be around the Crystal Coast ?

Wish I were, I'll be in and around Southport/Bald Head Island. Send 'em down that way if you see 'em. *Woot*

Great News! I'll be down some time around lunch Friday. Just checked and looks like they're calling for 2-3ft seas so this guy is probably going to be in search of reds and flatties on the back side of Bald Head.
I read in NC Sportsman an article about fishing the bay behind Bald Head South of Federal Point. Not sure I'll be brave enough to venture all the way up in there (I like my lower unit) but I'm def going to be hitting the marsh edges up the thoroughfare, elizabeth river, and dutchmans creek. Thinking topwater, and maybe a few mullet carolina rigged, (if I find bait easily).

I haven't been lately *kickrock* but I've heard reports of a good flounder bite the last week and a half anywhere from Sunset Beach up to Southport. Fish are in the inlets and creek mouths eating carolina rigged finger mullets. You shouldn't have a problem finding bait. Good luck and enjoy the long weekend. *Cheers*

As usual, I'll be around, but plans are to be working on my front porch rails for the next few days...instead of fishing *kickrock* If the reports are good, maybe I can sneak out for a half day *008*

I accidently caught a few from the Jetty at Ft Macon yesterday morning. On the FishBites that are Bloodworms. Of course I was just messing around and not really fishing when I caught the Mullet, had I been searching for them I would have been a pinfish magnet.

Now I am waiting on the Spot Runs... Come on Fall!

Well...Got a late start on Saturday and never got the skiff out on the water and Monday was a wash out. I did get some fishing time in Sunday, went out in the morning with my Dad and brother in law. Not a real nice day, on and off showers and breezy. Caught 2 reds in the marsh behind Bear Island in four hours before we headed in for lunch(should say my b-i-l caught 2 reds). Went out again in the late afternoon and fished the ICW and found some weakfish biting on live and cut mullet. We caught around 20 in two hours between 15" and 19" and kept 8 of them for a dinner. No pic's, my camera phone didn't like the wet weather *004*. It was nice to see my dad catch a few fish as it's been a while since he had. He likes fishing but likes catching a whole lot better. ;D

Anyway seeing those weakfish means the fall fishing is on it's way and I'm ready for it. *thumbsup*

We made it out Saturday morning and afternoon, but didn't do much except one 16in flounder. Sunday morning we caught a couple of keeper size weakfish and some nice croakers and spots. Best day was Monday morning, we didnt go out till 9 since we were watching the weather, got soaked but at least it cut down on the other boats, flounder bite was really great, we managed 2 nice sized keepers and several 12" - 13" that went back in to grow till next year. Mostly ICW at several creek mouths and the Elizabeth river. We attempted the back side of Bald Head Sunday morning with a livewell full of mullet, but half way across my Dad, wife, and I were soaked from splash blown back by the 20knot NE breeze so we never made it back up there. Great weekend though, next trip is already slated for the 19th & 20th.

Curious, what type of rig or set-up were you using for the weakfish using mullet? I've been a life-long pier and surf fisherman, so about all I'm familiar with is tandem bottom rigs, drum rigs, flounder and sheepshead rigs. The ones we caught were on some RapX subwalk plugs dad bought for red drum fishing (something else I need to beef up my skills on).

Jack, give me a shout when you come down again and we'll canvass the area for some yellow bellies... or reds... or trout, flounder... *Cheers*

Nice report Gregg... glad to hear your dad is getting back out with you*thumbsup* Folks, it shouldn't go without note that Gregg's fishing mates seem always to catch "the" fish. Knowing him as I do, and having spent several days on the water with him, I can tell you that is no accident. Gregg always puts his mates on the fish... his first priority. He's is a true gentleman and excellent guide, and he works hard to make sure his guests have an enjoyable time on the water.

mr.jhlove, weakfish (aka "Grays") are not picky feeders and are caught with a variety of bait and rigs. I've caught many when fishing for panfish using a simple double bottom rig tipped with cut shrimp, for example... the grays often attack the bait when I'm retrieving it, much as bluefish will, and seem to like a fast moving bait. When grays are "in" and I'm specifically targeting them in water less then 15 feet, I'll tie on a 1/4 to 3/8 oz jig head tipped with a plastic twister tail style grub. In deeper water, or if I'm drifting, I like to use a stingsilver of sufficient weight to keep and feel the lure bounce on the bottom. If bluefish are not bothersome, I will use the stingsilver as the bottom lure (doing double duty as a weight) and tie on a jig about 2 feet up, from a dropper loop. This is a very good speck rig also... stingsilver with a speck rig jig tied up the line... or tie on a standard double speck rig and use the stingsilver as the weight.
