I had a J16 with a 25HP Tohatsu for several years, but made the mistake of thinking I wanted something a little bigger and faster. I first ended up with a Key West 1720 with a 90HP Yamaha. It was nice but more than I wanted for the fishing I mainly do. It was also more of a hassle to load and unload myself and I fish alone frequently.
I sold that and from the extra money, I now have a Hewes Tailfisher 17' with a Yamaha T60. It's really nice and I can easily handle it, but it restricts me to mainly shallow flats and calm waters.
I'm looking at (probably within the next few months) getting into something like a 1765DLX. I want to be able to fish the flats, but also take it out into the bay (Tampa Bay) on calmer days. I like (but haven't physically seen) the 1780DLX and 178DLV. But more than likely the size will be much more to deal with loading and unloading. Not to mention that I need something that I can keep in my standard two car garage. The boat is the only thing in there and I usually have to put it in at an angle. More than likely I'll need to have the windshield and grab rail cut down some to get it into a 7' garage door.
I live in Lakeland Florida, primarily fishing the Tampa Bay area and Central Florida Lakes.
Anyways, now you have the rest of the story....
