Seems to me as we get to know each other more and more and everyone is all over the place, maybe we should think about a trip with fellow CSO's to do some fishing. I know trips can be pricey especially if they are a ways away (especially being a student) but maybe we could work something out where each trip could be to a different local where someone knows about the fishing! For. EX: Go up north and do a striper run, or Texas for reds and trout, and GA for the same and so on and so forth, i dunno just popped in my head!!

Matt,

I think that's a great idea. As you probably know, several of us got together over Thanksgiving weekend at Morehead City, NC. See the thread http://carolinaskiffowner.com/index.php?topic=811.0 It was strictly an informal gathering and not everyone got to fish with each other at the same time, but we did manage to meet one another, either on the water or in an after hours setting. All in all it was great to meet other members and to share a common interest. We're actually thinking about making it an annual event. With that being said, here's a few observations and issues to be considered;

Our event was successful due in part that our group was small, the event was informal, and anytime we gathered together either for fishing or alternate activites, it was done "spur of the moment". A larger event would have required stricter planning and some scheduling. That's not an impossible task but would require someone's leadership and a commitment from the attendees. Everyone in our group arrived at drastically different times so it was definitely "catch as catch can". It seemed to work well that everyone took care of their own lodging and boating needs. All we needed to know is what general locale to be in and how to get in touch with one another

Boating is inherently a dangerous sport. A sanctioned CSO event would imply liability and would require damage and injury waivers. Who wants to go there? It's done all the time in other organizations but it definitley elevates the level of planning and expense. At this time CSO is just a web site, not really a club or organization (yet). It would be up to Harry and his associates whether or not to make that transition and pursue official club events. I'd say the best approach, for now, is to plan a bit ahead and just make an announcement with an open invitation for other members to attend, at their own expense and risk. Basically, keep it simple. And as you mentioned, the location and time will dictate who can or cannot attend.

My $0.02

Well said Mike

The get together sounds like a great idea, and by the sounds of it everyone that got together at your trip seemed to have a good time. Remember " a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work".

If someone wants to take the bull by the horns and plan an outting, feel free to use the forum as your communication hub !!

I could set aside an area in the fishing report section ( or where ever) strictly for this function.

Let me know.

Harry, I think an Announcements forum would be a good thing, not only for the purpose of organizing group get togethers, but for members to spread the word about upcoming boat shows, fishing expositions, public meetings relative to boating and fishing, and so on. Right now those type of things get spattered between the Dock Party, Fishing Reports, and parts unknown. I can't tell you where to put it but perhaps you and the mods can come up with a convenient place if you decide to pursue it further. Just a thought.

Well thats actually what i had pictured in mind, i figured it would usually be a small group or so and not really a "Event" but more like a "hey several of us are gonna be in texas, anyone wanna fish?" kinda thing. I definately agree with the personal liability stuff, it would be to much in my opinion to make it a CSO sanctioned event. Rather i think a gathering of friends with the same interests would be a better way to go about it. I thought too it would be a while before something got put together is why i mentioned it now. So ill keep thinking about it and thanks for the input, and by the way if anyone is ever down the georgia way, lets go fishing! Im sure we can get something together and id imagine it would be a smaller group rather than larger. Definately like the just "hey im in your town lets go fishing" ill keep thinking about it.

Fayetteguy, Don't want to hijack the thread but, can you recommend some good ramps in the Savannah area? I'm in Warner Robins and want to start going to the coast for inshore fishing with my BIL. We normally go to Jekyll Island once a year but I want to fish more and tow the shortest distance I can before hitting water. The few ramps I've found online don't look promising. Thanks for anyhelp.

a popular one here is Turners Creek Ramp, it can get busy though and has a crappy parking area but provides easy access to Wassaw Sound. Another is Skidaway Narrows Ramp which is a great facility, new ramps, huge parking lot especially for trailers and easily access Wassaw Sound and Ossabaw Sound. There is Lazaretto ramp near Tybee as well. If you know which sound and about where you want to fish i can give you a better idea but those i mentioned are pretty good. If your running the savannah river then Houlihan Ramp is good. I have used all of these especially with the sea trout lately! Feel free to ask more detailed and i can let you know. I also work down here with coastal resources and do alot of talking to keep up with how the fish are biting, if your coming soon, the Spotted Sea Trout bite is unbelievable right now. just let me know.

wow how did i miss that, so i guess theres already an area for that! Well cool, maybe this post will remind people its there and maybe fellow CSO'ers will meet and fish. ( i kinda figured when i mentioned it that it would end up fizzling out as well but i figured it was worth a try)

p.s.- I dont know if you remember but i was working on a t-shirt, and still am. Im thinking, on front left shoulder a catchy fish saying or something. On the back the same saying across shoulders, with nominated saltwater fish picture in middle, and CSO web address below that? any opinions feel free to drop them as well as nominate the fish!

Thanks for the info. I'll have to look up the sounds on maps to see where I might want to go. I really don't know the area well at all. I've only been in Savannah twice and to Tybee once. My kids have activities for the next few weekends so I won't be able to come out anytime soon. I've been trying to get on a lake one more time for the last two weeks and haven't even managed that. :-[
