Great weather and seas in store all week in the Carolina coast..We left the Masonboro ramp at about 7a Saturday morning in the hunt for bait..found about 30 nice size porgies by 7:30a we were heading out the inlet in the hunt for some hungry palegics..21 miles out to the "School House"...drop a 4 line spread and it was very slow, heavy overcast, but nice 80.5 degree calm water...after about one hour the first line goes off, Ms. Cuda in the other end, about 12 lbs. or so, got released, reset the spread...10 minutes later line goes off, he is taking line and going deep, snap...*004* What ever it was it was big and wrap around something in the reef clear cut 50# power pro...*001* Good ol Mr. Sunshine starts to break out the clouds, water really lightens up, nice pretty blue...Short line goes off, Mr. King on the the other end, nice mid lifer estimited 14-15 pounds.
Back to the spread this time we decide to drop a long center line with a three live porgies set up, after five minutes long line goes off...Nice Mahi leeps out off water, spits the hook...*004* within a few seconds the next line goes off, leeps out of the water, it hangs on this time, the first Mahi in the Skiff of the year....*yay**yay*..Nice looking youngster a few ounces short of 18 lbs. after a five minute picture session we drop back in and another penut mahi, about 5-6 pounder...We tough we were on to something but within minutes they shut down.... After about another 30 minutes we started to head back in and decided to make a stop about 12 miles from the inlet (AR 376) just looking around the reef to try to spot some fish on the screen we noticed a bunch of bait jumping around the reef marker, so we decided to drop a a "Ribbon Fish" on the downrigger, we made our turn into the wind and pulled the "Ribbon" right close to the marker, within seconds the line goes off "smoking" Eli states "Darn it has taken half the line already"...he is hanging on and fighting tuff we turned towards the fish and go on a slow chase to keep him from spooling off, it leaps out of the water, "it's big" but could not make what type fish it was..after a 15 min fight we get it boat side...Mrs. Cuda, she scales in at 35.5 pounds...;D
a bit slow, but indeed very nice day..Five fish total in the boat, estimited 80-85 pounds of fish...*thumbsup*

Way to go Hector, I glad some one is still getting out. Thats a good looking fish. I had planned on fishing, but ended up working all weekend. You know how it goes --"first your money, then your cloths".*006*

Good job Hector. The Mahi are still pretty thick, but the damn cudas are crazy this year. We lost some monster nearshore reef flounder to them the other day. The cudas won and chased us off to another spot.

Congrats on the nice mahi Hector *yay* Sounds like that might have been a reef donkey broke you off... and that cuda is a hoss! I don't mind catching them but when they follow a half eaten snapper up to the top of the water and and smile at me with a full belly, I'm not so happy rotflmao Can always count on them, especially when fishing near structure this time of year.

Thanks for the report and pictures... yep, Eli's looking way better ;D

Hector,

As soon as I get this monkey off my back I'll be in the water. Looks like Kings, Stripers, and Trout if I'm lucky!
