View Full Version : Bunk Alignment for 1765 DLX?

As I hope you can see from the pictures, I have a 6 inch stern overhang on my Magic Tile Trailer bunks. However my winch post is all the way up to the point where the side rails join the tongue. If I move the winch post to the front of side rails it is a 19 inch forward movement. This would mean the bunks would extend 13 inches behind the stern, and the front of the boat would be beyond the bunks by 6 inches not to mention what this much move would do to the tongue weight. I'm trying to figure out how to have the winch post stradle the side rails and only move the boat forward 6 inches. Part of the problem is the height of the side rail is higher than the tongue. Before I burned up to many brain cells on this, I thought I would see if anyone else had encounterd and solved this problem.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Jeff, You lost me ??

Ric,
What is your goal, simply to have the boat sit fully "on" the bunks?

Jeff,
I see it now. Great idea !!
I thought the roller arm was channel iron, but now see it is hollow because the chain goes through it.

Simply unbolt the winch and roller arm, and bolt it back on to the front side (facing your vehicle) of the winch post.

If the winch post is too wide to accept the roller arm, you could cut the bottom weld, bend it with an offset just wider then the winch post and have it welded back up. Then bolt it to the wich post like Jeff suggested.

Here's to Jeff *Cheers*

Also could just install longer bunks

Harry - Yes, my goal is to simply move the boat forward enough to support the stern and fully support the hull. Thanks for the further clarification of Jeff's idea. Your explanation helped a lot.

Jeff - Great Idea! I will take a look at this tomorrow and see if I can make it work. I sure hope it does and it will move the boat enough. I will report back.

Watercat - Thank you. I'm hoping I don't have to replace the bunks now with longer ones. But if it comes to that I will.

Thanks again all for your responses.

Ric,
By the looks of your transom picture you might not get the whole boat up on the bunks, doing like Jeff said, but you'll get here real close. *thumbsup*
So close in fact I don't think you'd ever get a "hook" in your hull from it.
BTW, your transducer appears to be a little high ;D. Can you read at running speed?

Harry; I believe you are correct on getting close enough to prevent any problems. I looked at my winch post set-up and I think it will fit. Going to try the move shortly.

Thanks for pointing out the transducer. It has been and issue. I raised it because I was not getting depth read sat above 10 MPH. I also thought I might have to clear the bunk. It was also throwing a lot of spray on my outboard with half the transducer below the hull and it still didn't read above 10 MPH. Raising it reduced the spray and didn't affect the read either way. Since I now don't have to worry about the bunks I can try lowering it a little below center of the hull bottom to see if I get a read without to much spray on the outboard. Is there Anything else I can try?

On my transducer there is a line that runs from the front to the rear of it about half way down the thickness of the ducer.

That line is supposed to be even with the bottom edge of the boat.
I get a tiny rooster tail (barely) from it, but no spray.

Again,
That how my manufacture wants it installed on a boat. It is a Garmin.
Of course yours may be different. I was just pointing it out and didn't know if was just the camera angle from the picture, or if you were too high and not getting a good reading.

Also remember mine is a DLV you have the DLX, which I hear is a bitch to get just right and a good read. Might want to talk with a couple of those fella's.

Regards,
Harry

*yay*It worked! I had to grind some rough spots off the side of the post and apply a hammer to achieve the fit, but the bottom line is It worked. New pictures attached so you can see the fit. I was able to move the boat forward 3 inches and went from 5 1/2 inches stern overhand to 2 1/2 inches. I hope this will be sufficient to prevent any curve from developing in the hull.

Thanks Jeff for developing the idea!*Cheers*

Now when the time comes to replace those wooden bunks you can make'em 3-4" longer.

The way it sits now, I would be confident you will be fine. Hope you feel the same way. *Cheers*

Yes, I feel much better about it now and I think the hull will be fine until as you say it is time to replace the bunk runners. It even looks better on the trailer.

Now if the wind would ever decrease and the threat of thunder storms dimenish I can go fishing.

Looks good,After I looked at it once you mounted it I saw sumthing. You might want to add a bolt,It is probally ok though. It might bend if you stop suddenly.

OK, better safe than sorry. I will get a couple of bolts and get them installed.
