;D The Hokie Hooker went out Sunday morning at Oregon Inlet. Pretty slow morning, only manged 2 keeper flounder. The water was pretty dirty from the southwest winds and the storms from Friday. Fished about 4-5 hours, had to get back home.*kickrock* Going back this weekend and in to next week.
Couple of pics
The catch. (The fish, not my wife and daughter;D)

At least you got some, did you fish the 60ft hole or the bridge?
white gulp curly tail or live?

Fished the outgoing tide from the bridge to the shoals. Most luck around the depth changes. 3 and 4" white swimming mullet gulp on flouro leader. Didn't take the time to get live bait.

Hey Hokie,
I will be in the OBX the first of August for a week. Never fished the there, I will definately hit the inlet, but how is it getting offshore there? Is the inlet rough of pretty easy to navigate? Are there any have to hit spots? I saw something about the bridge. Thanks!!*Cheers**Cheers*

I would not go offshore out of oregon inlet in my size or smaller boat. There are "outside" charters for that. As a matter of fact, one of the best things I did last year was to take an inshore charter. That way I got a feel for some of the area. "Rock on" charters and "fishing unlimited" are two that I am aware of.
There are many threads on here about the dangers of many inlets and oregon inlet definately requires local knowledge. The conditions can change drastically depending on the wind and tides. however, many people use it, I even saw a pontoon boat coming in two weeks ago. I just shook my head. I don't go out in my boat. Sometimes, with the swells, my 90 hp has trouble keeping up/getting out of the swells. I generally have my family on board and I don't like to take risks.
Here is a link to the NOAA chart for that area.

I would suggest trying the Manteo area before venturing to the Inlet. Look at 3weights posts on the trout that they have been catching early morning south of manteo. The banks on either side can produce fish. The marshy islands around wancheese are fun to explore.
At the inlet, be mindful of the tides, that inlet is a small funnel for a lot of water. I tend to go to the north and sout side channels and "old house" channel inshore of the bridge when the tide is rolling. Couple of hours around Slack tide is a good time to fish the bridge. At dead calm tides there is an old ferry post on the south end that can be good fishing. You can't miss it.
Be careful, you will go from 8' to 6" quick in the sound. :secret:That is what makes it such good fishing. My skeg tends to stay very clean. ;D
I am still a novice when it comes to the sound, I learn something everytime I fish. *thumbsup*
