Well it FINALLY happened! Fishin Jones and I were able to get our schedules together and head out for a little fishing. Austin (Fishin Jones) showed up at my house Friday at about 5:30PM Friday so we could get to know each other and plan our fishing for Saturday AM. We walked 4 houses down the street to introduce him to Capt Jim who would also be fishing with us, and were invited to sample a selection of AmberJack, Red Snapper and King Mackeral that Capt Jim and I caught Wedneday on our "scouting trip" for this weekend. THAT MAN CAN COOK!!!

We met up Saturday AM, dropped the boat in the water and headed out to get some bait.....luckily, I spoted a school of perfect sized Menhaden about 100 yards from the dock and loaded the livewell with 2 casts of the castnet. We ran out to our "5 mile spot" and did a little powerdrifting. It was rather rough, so I never even dropped a line, but concentrated on drifting the wreck (but don't feel bad Sportskiff, for the first time in 2 years I tossed my breakfast too). Action was good, but of course, we forgot to get pics until we returned to the dock. Total for Saturday was 5 red snapper and a grouper....

We got pushed back inside and sat thru some heavy thunderstorms before running back to the dock.

We had such a blast (despite my adding to the chum slick) and decided to do it again on Sunday. Capt Jims wife informed him she was going, so we decided to "buddy boat" out to the same 5 mile spot....

We anchored up my boat, and Capt Jim and his wife tied off to our stern. After a little while the red snapper started to turn on. We kept 5 between the 2 boats and then the AmberJack started to show up....First it was Capt Jim getting hooked up....

And then getting "pinned to the gunnel"....

The first AmberJack...

Then Capt Jims wife hooks up to her first AmberJack ever....

Another nice keeper....

We decide to drop down a big bait and I get hooked up....

Austin couldn't stand it, so he up-sizes his bait and drops down......boom!
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/100_0281.jpg

He gets his first AmberJack ever....
http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/100_0284.jpg

I think he liked it and drops down another big bait....

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/100_0287.jpg

And another....

http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e66/chumhead/100_0293.jpg

Another storm started to roll in, so we headed in for the pass. We stopped at the jetties to get a group photo and made a few more friends who took this pic for us....total for the day 8 AmberJack (kept 4) and a bunch of red snapper (kept 5).

Austin and I had never met before Friday night, I have said before on another post that I had a standing offer to go fishing with any forum members that happened to be in the Panama City area and Austin sent me a PM wanting to take me up on the offer. I also said I have never had a bad experience meeting new people and going fishing, and it definitely still holds true. I have made another great friend, and along with Capt Jim and his wife, got to experience some fantastic fishing along with the new friendship (AND sent Austin home with a cooler full of fish, as well as another fresh fish dinner before he left for home).

I'd like to strongly recommend that our members meet up and go fishing whenever possible. You won't regret it and may form some great friendships along the way.

Austin....we had a wonderful time fishing with you and I'm already looking forward to our next trip (I only hope that we didn't set the bar too high after the first trip, lol.....)

Dont be supprised if I take you up on that offer too. My family has had a family place at Santa Rosa Beach for 37 year. I try to drag my boat down a couple of times a year.

Your photos got me fired up. Looks like a great time. *thumbsup*

Beckcl, *Cheers* its as easy as clicking on the PM button. I work every other weekend, so I also have days off during the week. Even though it may take a little time to work out a schedule (along with the weather) it can, and will be worked out eventually.

We've been posting up some pretty good reports, just keep in mind that we may not always be able to deliver a trip like this (I get nervous every time I take someone out for the first time-I don't want them to leave disappointed). Fishing is fishing, and I have my fair share of bad, unproductive trips..... :secret: they just never get reported rotflmao

The offer still stands.....

I have fished down there more than anywhere else, and found that like everywhere else it is not hard to come home empty cooler in hand.

I grew up fishing that area with my Grandfather, but like most kids, I thought he would live forever. I never paid that much as to the why and how, just the love of going with him.

Now that I am old enough to have a boat, wife, and child of my own, and Grandpa is gone, I wish I had paid more attention. I have a bit of learning to do.

My point is.....its not always about the fish we catch, sometimes its just about the trip. *Cheers*

It truly was a great trip, meeting both Chumhead and Captain Jim was a pleasure. They both welcomed a complete stranger into their homes to share good food and fish stories.

I now have amberjack fever and the only cure is MORE AMBERJACK!!

I do hope that a trend like this continues throughout the forum, to get out and meet members, and learn different techniques for catching fish and making excellent memories.

Cant wait to do it again!

Great fishing trip Chum... and the pics are report was inspirational, to say the least. I'm with ya 100% on inviting other members to go fishing. I always have a good time with our members and though we don't always catch a boat load, we leave with new learned experiences and fond memories. Can't go wrong making new friends *Cheers*
