Does anyone have this model Garmin? I'm thinking about geting one and can't find a lot of reviews on them.

I don't have the 545 but last year I decided to upgrade from the 440S and I ordered one. I took it out of the box and decided the "extra" screen size wasn't worth the $$$ so I sent it back. I think the Garmins are pretty nice instruments but if I were shopping today I'd be taking a hard look at the Lowrance HD units. My 2¢

I have had this unit on my skiff for 2 & 1/2 seasons now and am extremely pleased with it, dealer installed as part of the original purchase, if I had to do it again I would however purchase a seperate DF & FF.

I bought a 540S. Am happy with it except that when using FF & GPS at the same time you won't be able to use the split screen mode. I purchased a handheld GPS to alleviate this problem? So a separate FF & GPS unit, if I had a "do over."

Joe,
I too have the 540s, I use the split screen GPS & FF all the time.*006*

Love my Garmin 540s
IMO for small consoles like the skiffs have, you can't beat the space saver these combo units provide.

Hey i just had chatlee install a 545s on my 218 elite , However, I've not had time to put it in water. I also ordered the sd card for coastal carolina, from West Marine, but it has not arrived yet. I hope the transducer is accuate, I could use advise on the shallow water alarm. I was planning on setting it to about 5ft. How do you'all use your alarms or do you simply watch the screens.

I have the 440s and love it. The 500 series would be nice but you are only talking an inch(That's what she said). I installed all my electronics. It's not that bad just remember to place it where you want it and then move all your levers and steering to make sure it doesn't hit.
