I met Gunnar at the ramp at 0530 on Friday to see if we could hunt down some redfish in the swarnsboro area marshes. The cool northerly breeze was just enough, at the tide level we had, to make spotting our quarry difficult to impossible. Faced with blind casting a large expanse of marsh edge, Gunnar opted to take me to one of his go-to spots along the ICW, where we found a few fish in and around some oyster beds and marsh grass.
I'd been tossing a top pup for a while, without a nudge, and was getting discouraged so changed to a 3" pink pogey. While I was tying it one, Gregg spotted a fish just out in front of me. I flipped the pogey over top of it and got an instant hit. We were parked right nest to the grass and after a short side trip, the redfish made a strait beeline directly toward me, the boat, and the cover of the marsh grass, and came unbuttoned just as he ran under the boat. It wasn't more than a minute or two and Gregg directed my attention along the grass some 30 feet behind the skiff. I tossed the pogey a foot off the swirl and the fish gulped it down before it hit bottom in ~1 foot of water. After landing the 19" drum, on the falling tide, the fish likely moved out of this rather small creek pool, so we fished the channel out toward the ICW without luck. The next feeder creek looked promising but gave up nothing except for a missed flounder and a caught one of about 8" ;D
Moving along, the breeze dying off some now, Gregg took us to a stretch of banks along the ICW, where we added a 15" speck to the box. We lost a few baits chomped off by pesky little bluefish and got a few more chewed up by voracious lizardfish. All in all, a beautiful, though unusually cool July morning on the Crystal Coast. Thanks Gregg for inviting me along... I always enjoy our trips together and this time was no exception *Cheers*

Wouldn't have "boxed" this fish but he swalled the bait so we cut the line and put him in the cooler. Later, we added a speckled trout (no pic) to keep him company.
