View Full Version : Can I mount depth finder transducer inside the hull?

Hello - 218 Elite and I'd like to glue the transducer inside the hull near the bilge pump like you'd see on a ski boat. I've heard this will not work on some boats (like our old 13 whaler) but will it work on the Skiff?

Thanks

No one has successfully managed it yet. The hulls are foam filled except for the bilge so you would have to find a place in the bilge or make a new hole to try it.

Thanks - the bilge actually has tons of room. I think I'll get puck transducer and give it a shot.

Let us know how it works.*thumbsup*

I tried with two different depth finders without success. They would both read bottom at idel speed with the sensativity turned up to 100% but could not hold bottom once under way. They were Hummingbird X55a with puck transducer and Eagle 320 with a highspeed transducer. I used adheasive grease to place both in the bilg area without success. I am running a 1655 DLX and dont want to place outside the boat due to fishing very shollow areas with stumps but I guess I will have to.

Sorry, a little late on this one. *clonk*

I have a "temp" mount for my Lowrance on the bow. I put the puck in the front storage box and it works great. Here's the catch, you can hear the sonar "ping". I'm going to come up with a foam insulation mount idea one of these days.

Sorry I'm a little late on this one as well. I have a Egale Cuda with the Finder GPS combo with the transducer mounted in the bilge area of my 198 Elite. The Elite model is solid glass back there. I used the Locktite Marine Epoxy to mount it right in front of the bilge pump and it works great. When you go to mount it just mix up a good amount as it needs to be worked down with no air bubble in the epoxy. It reads at high speeds for the most part. The only time it ever gets fuzzy is at +40mph which I never seem to reach anymore (added 2 batteries, trolling motor, anchor, T-top ext.). Even then it gave me an accurate depth just not a good pic of the bottom. Also I now have a HB Side Scan unit mounted next to the Eagle on the console and its transducer is mounted on the transom and the depth reading are within 6" of each other. I would get rid of the Eagle but it make a nice back up unite and the HB being a Side Scan model stops giving accurate readings around 15mph.
