I had 4 rods stolen from the boat Friday night/Saturday Morning. Please keep an eye out for them!
2 shimano tld15's spooled with high viz green mono, one dark green and one light green. Both on Saragosa rods.
2 shimano tld20's spooled with clear mono. Both on Saragosa rods.
Both of the TLD 20's had light corrosion around the bolt in the center of the handle.
One TLD 20 had a 5 1/2 Yozuri DD, blue with silver belly on it.
Rods were stolen on the White Oak River, near Stella at White Oak Shores pier.
At 5am a friend who was leaving the pier to go fishing, saw 2 guys in a green aluminum boat, motoring around shining a spotlight. One guy had his shirt off with a big tatoo (maybe his name) across his shoulders. Their boat was running at the time.
At 5:30am, 2 other friends were leaving the pier to go fishing and they see the same 2 guys in the aluminum boat hanging out beside the pier. The guy with the tatoos told my friends they were broken down and waiting on someone to come and tow them back to the boondocks boatramp at the Stella bridge. The guy with the tatoo was in his mid 20's, a name tatooed on his back with lines coming across his shoulders and down the front of his chest. The lines may have been connecting tatoos and they thought the lines were maybe barbwire. The guy had light colored short hair. The other guy in the boat was older with darker hair with some gray to it. My friends offered to tow the aluminum boat to the ramp, but the offer was refused. My friends then left to go fishing.
Sunday afternoon I was told by a local guy who recognized the description of tatoos, that one of the guys lived off of the road that leads to River Oaks Subdivision, just off of Stella Rd. He said the guy was known around the area as being the local thief. I am certainly not accusing these 2 guys, but they had the opportunity.
All information was given to officer Bill McKinney with the Carteret County Sheriff's dept. Anyone with any further info should contact me via e-mail, PM, or please contact Deputy McKinney at 252-504-4800
Thank you.

Mark, man I hate that for ya. I know it's a real bummer. If you have boat insurance they may cover the loss. That still don't do anything for the feeling of intrusion though. *kickrock* I hope they catch the SOB's and treble hook their arse.

I'm in Florida so no chance I can help you. It does sound like you gave good info to the cops, and I hope they recover your equipment and stick it to the SOBs who stole it. I hate it for you.

Mark,
I feel for you. I haven't had my boat ripped off, but I did have the first decent mountain bike I ever had stolen off my front porch. It's the personal violation that makes you want to kill somebody.
I hope you get your stuff back, but if not, be assured that only bad will come to those who fish with it.

Hey Mark, does lightning strike twice? You have a lot of info on how it might of happend. I will be down in that area after the 4th. of July. I can leave my boat with cameras afixed and see what happens. I know this sounds stupid, it burns me up to think that one person would do this to another!

Mark, that has to steam you! Something else you might want to do...........check every pawn shop within 30 miles. I like the idea of setting out some bait to catch him. The short hair and tatoos sound like he is a MMA fan.............probably need stun guns and pepper spray to control him, when he takes the bait. 4-5 guys hiding out around the bait on land, with a boat in the water, out of sight, with 2-3 guys in it, in radio contact...........sounds better than deer hunting, to me.

LOL, I love the idea of baiting them. I thought about hanging out on the boat all night Saturday, but figured I would get carried away by the Carteret County vultures (mosquitos)
There was about 12 boats on the pier, and most of them had ocean rods in the rod holders, all had some sort of rods. Everyone believes that more people would have been hit if my 2 friends had not shown up when they did. They both feel terrible about not realizing what was going on, but we have never had any problems until then. Everyone has left their stuff on their boats, but now everyone (at least me) will have to haul the stuff in every night. That is a long pier, I will have to get me a cart of some sort LOL.
I am trying to keep it all in perspective, as it could have been a lot worse. I had 4 tackle boxes on board, loaded with gear, vhf, gps/ff combo, and stand alone fish finder.
There was a mini-bike stolen from Stella Rd. Friday night. The guy with the tatoos was seen walking on Stella Rd. Friday night also.

Doesn't sound stupid at all. Most people are the honest and hard working kind, and most people feel the same way about a thief. Me personally, I think they would make good trolling bait for some great white shark fishing.
I really hate the fact that we decided to go fishing at 6:15am after we found the rods missing. I had no idea any of the information that I would find out later. I tried to call my friends on the vhf, but they were already out of range. Had I known that it probably happend around 5:15, I would have went riding on the river instead of heading out to pull handlines and planers. I figured the rods were gone already and I would file a report with the sheriff later that day, why not try and salvage a little fishing since they were calling for such a good forecast in the ocean. And to top it all off, all we caught was 4 thirteen inch spanish mack.

With that new boat, you could take them out "deep sea fishing"

Mark:
Thieving turns the stomach! Violate a lot of things...trust being number one. Where I live, we never took the keys out of the cars or locked the doors to the house. Brother that has now changed! They are everywhere.
I like the idea of a "set-up". I did that once with a camera. The camera was found, taken and trashed along with the thieving. Riverine1969 idea might be better or send someone to the mans house asking to buy a rod or any other fishing equipment. On second thought it might be better to let the LAW handle it if they will. Most times, little cases like this goes no further than the report.
I hope I will never catch anyone in the act of thieving. Lying and thieving goes hand and hand THEY always told me.
Sorry to hear about your lose but thanks for telling us. We all want to be trusting. What a violation! Makes one want to "barf"!
Shoot 'um a torpedo!

Mark, sorry to here what some sorry piece of #%*@ has done. There are a couple of things on God's Earth that I can't put up with one is a liar and the other is a thief. I believe both come from the bottom of the same barrel.
As soon as I read your posting this afternoon I went ahead and called all the Pawn Shops here in Jacksonville. I figured Stella is only a short distance away. None of the shops have seen any Shimano reels come in at this time.
A good piece of justice for this low life would be, for him to take them rods go fishing in the White Oak River and get his feet tangled in the line fall overboard, and let a gator bite off his thieving hand.

Joe, that is a good thing you did, calling around.
Like I said in my post, only bad can come... I like your more specific Old Testament justice.

Many thanks Joe! I have heard that there is a place somewhere on Hwy 70, and another in Morehead City that is well known to have dealt in stolen fishing gear before. Any ideas on a name for either of these places? Please PM that info if anyone has it, I would hate to see names tossed around on a public board.
We had a nice 8 foot gator cruising the pier on Friday, hiding up in the grass. Maybe he got the rods?
