Hello all,
I'm finally picking up my 14ft DLX this week, for crabbing and fishing shallow water do you think I should have them install a fish/depth finder? I plan on crabbing and fishing and bait can be expensive so will I get better results with say device?

I'm looking at units under $100, Cuda 300,Humminbird Piranhamax 170,Garmin 90reman. Anyone have a recommendation?
Ok a couple of questions on installing the unit.
1 do I install the transducer very bottom of the transom?
2 should I use 5200 to seal the screws or something else incase I need to replace?
3 do I drill a hole in the top of the transom to run the cord through?
My boat is a tiller so I plan on mounting the head unit right on the rear bench.

Instructions will come with your unit for mounting, follow them.

Alot of people mount there transducer to Starboard or cutting board material and then attach that to the transom. This allows you to move the transducer and not have to re-drill holes in your transom.

I've seen advertised for the cheaper portable models a suction cup mount, has anyone tried these or much like me they fear they will fall off.

I've used a couple of the Cuda models. They work pretty good for the money. The Eagle models are made by Lowrance. They just find a few ways to get the price down.

All of the depth finders in the under $100 range are pretty much equal.
Keep an eye out at bass pro, they put the cuda and the humminbird on sale for $10 - $20 off every once in a while. I got a cuda for $59 early this year to put on my pond hopper. Cant beat any fishfinder for that price.
