Myself and a couple of friends are headed to the shore this Sunday the 14th for a week. First trip for either of us up there although we've fished Hampton Roads several times. OK, who's got the tips, the spots, recommend motels/cabins for rent, launch ramps etc etc. Redfish74 has already given me a few tips but just wanted to see what the whole crowd had to say. Currently, looking to stay around Exmore which gives us both sides of the bay to fish depending on the weather with only a short drive to either side. OK, get off the info. I'll take what ever ya got. Oh, thanks in advance and if it's private stuff, GPS #'s etc, you can PM me if you want. I'll guard it with my pals life. Flounder, Red Fish, Black Drum, Cobia, Croaker. Pretty much in that order if given the choice. ;D

Chincoteague Island might be of interest.

Now, that really looks good but I've got to bring out the big stuff for that place. Maybe next trip but thanks anyway. We're not going that far north this time.

Check out tidalfish.com ...they have some great reports in the VA section. We were down in Cape Charles about a month ago. Had a great time and caught a bunch of flounder and schoolie stripers in the creek near Bayford (little bit south of Exmore). Tried for drum one morning but skunked out at Buoy 16. Hooked a couple but didn't get them in the boat. Had a bunch steal our bait off the hooks. Hope you guys wear em out.

OK, Redfish74 says Exmore is the place to stay, fish in either direction depending on winds. Looks good to me. Anybody else going to be in the area, drop me a line. We're at the Best Western Exmore Va. Come on, we need all the help we can get. *008*

Lakebiker,
I live on the Eastern Shore, down near Cape Charles. About 3 weeks ago flounder fishing was very good, both out of Oyster and out of Wachapreague. The past few weeks it has been slow, partly because the fish are moving out of the shallows to deeper water and also because the water has been dirty the past few weeks. For instance, about 3 weeks ago I fished out of Oyster with a couple of friends and caught about 20 flounder with 7 keepers (over 19 inches). That same week I fished out ot Wachapreague by myself and caught 12 in 1 1/2 hours, but only 1 keeper. Went the past 2 weekends with friends out of both places, fished most of the day with several friends and only managed 6-8 fish each day and 1-2 keepers each day for everyone on the boat. Red and black drum fishing was also going well a little before that, but that's winding up, too.
Cobia should be starting up soon down at Latimer Shoal a little south of Kiptopeake (below Cape Charles), but I'm not sure how steady that's gotten yet.
Since things are sort of in transition, I'd do 2 things:
1) log on to TidalFish and look for recent posts. For the bay side of the shore you log on the Message boards and go to Virginia Angler, for the Atlantic (seaside, as is is known locally) the posts should be on the Mid-Atlantic inshore message board, but they are sometimes posted on the Virginia Angler board.
2) Chris's Bait and tackle, near Kiptopeake (phone 331-3000) , is a good source of the latest fishing information, especially for the lower shore. They shoot pretty straight and will tell you if something isn't biting well, as well as if it is.
Good Luck. I hope you get into them!

Where have you been hiding*006*
Come on up and show us around but if that don't work, we can come down your way. Thanks for the info. I've been using TidalFish for several years and 74 told me about Chris's. You've got a PM. *thumbsup*

Lakebiker,
I'm still around, I just don't check in as often as I should. At least I caught your post in time for your trip. I've responded to your PM.

Thanks everybody for all the help, tips and PM's but, we've had to cancel the trip. One of my best pals who was going on the trip, his Mom had a major stroke late last night and is not expected to live through the weekend. *008* Ain't no way can I go and leave him at this time. I'll bring this back up at a later date. Thanks again, LB.

Prayers for your friend's mom and all that care for her. Sounds like he needs a friend like you.

Ron,
I hope things worked out OK with your friends mother. If you do decide to come up here soon, I've got some new info. I went cobia fishing this weekend and caught 2, 34 and 40 pounds. One was caught by my brother's 12 year old son!!! He was stoked! I also hear red drum in the surf are a possibility, although that's a fishery I'm not really up on. Spanish mackerel are biting near Fisherman's Island and a few flounder are starting to be caught in the Bay.
