Hey everyone - just had lunch with my wife and we are considering a "spur of the moment" trip down to swansboro tommorrow (Saturday). Launching from Shell Rock Landing and cruising out to Bear Island.

My question is: How crazy will it be out there tommorow? We plan on getting to Shell Rock around 8:30 or 9am which is probably pretty late to get a good parking spot.

I'm guessing that the ramp will be crowded all day?

Suggestions? Advice? Should we just scrap the whole idea?

Thanks!

Come down to Beaufort and you can launch from my back yard! No wait! I'm serious. Otherwise, I wish you fast launch, calm seas and lots of fun!

Shellrock...the good ole' days. We used to camp there. I can imagine how busy it will be around Bear Island tomorrow. Wish I was you!

REDBEARD!!! You have a launch from your back yard?? Where exactly are you in Beaufort? Packfan, I won't be so bad. Just be patient and polite, and prepare to walk to park at the ramp. NEVER scrap a chance to take in a little salt air!! It'll be fun and much better than sitting at home. Now the fourth of July is a little different story...

capn luke,

We are in Beaufort on the North River. I have a grandfathered concrete ramp which I easily launch the J-14 from, I am confident a 16 would go no problem, best bet with middlin tide. I am always willing to offer this up for friends any time. The public launch at Taylor Creek can be hell and if you have a smaller boat I got what you need. Sgt. Dave has seen it and from what I understand I guess we are lucky cuz today you would have a hard time or not be able at all to get a ramp installed at that site. I'd rather have a dock but no can do due to $$$. PM me if you wanna launch this weekend. We are heading down tomorrow morning.
