Hey Capn Luke, I will be at Harker's Island this weekend. Sgt Dave will be out and about as well. Send me a pm.

Last weekend we had a king hook up and break off at the boat on a yu zuri plug behind a no. 1 planer. Plenty of spanish on a 00 silver clark spoon. All of these were on the front side of Shackleford Banks. Plenty of flounder near Cape Lookout in the marsh grass on Gulp Shrimp (new penny) and a white jig head.

Best regards,

Bill

I'll be floating around the area between Thurs. afternoon until Monday. I'll be doing the solo thing until Friday afternoon when the rest of my crew arrives... could use a partner Friday AM if you don't have a better offer. *Cheers*

I'll be cruising the North River between North River Bridge and Harker's Island Bridge Sunday and Monday in my little J-14. Probably not fishing, but enjoying the experience on the water.

Hey Brokebeach, I visited your web page. Nice music. Rush! If you need a lift, give a holler. I will have my 3 boys. 12, 13 and 14 yo.

Redbeard, if you do fish the bridge at Harker's I was catching pig fish, croakers and black sea bass on frozen shrimp. Everything was still small. Ditto on fishing the fron side. I will keep my ears on 71.

Same for Mike, capn Luke and Sgt. Dave.

The forecast looks better for heading out this weekend and I may try to catch that king with my yu zuri in it. When it broke off, it wasn't because of the leader material, it was the trebble hook that separated.

Maybe if my neighbor has a spare rod my boys and I will will make our first effort at trying to catch a flounder. We will try to put Capt. Jimmy's advice to good use. I think I remember most everything he taught us at the dinner, I hope it's not too complicated. We will let you know how we make out!

Quick fishing report... didn't have such a hot day today. The locals said the weather was pitiful earlier in the week and it knocked the water temp down.

I caught four 2' -3' sharks and a bunch of small croakers, an eel, and one pig fish. Kept some of the small croakers and gonna use them for live bait tomorrow. High tide at 0630... gotta get it early tomorrow.

Joe, I will bring a few extra poles.

Mike, good luck with the live bait. I know some good creeks near the light house that have some mud minnows. What was the water temperature?

Capn Luke, I hope the gigging goes well.

What was the water temperature?

It was 70 at the Marina but mid 60's out in the inlet, +/- a degree or two. Depends on where I was.

I'm taking a camera, and I'm going to show you boys something about flounder fishing. Remember, the areas Jimmy fishes are a little different than ours. I've tried his methods in the past with mixed results. I'll be fishing drum inlet most of the weekend, and his stuff doesn't work well there. It's just different water types. I like a 1/8 spec rig tipped with a strip of cut bait better. Drift the shallow inlets with as many rods as you can stand to use. I have 5-7 in my 16' boat with two people. I always like a white grub tipped with cut bait too. Gulps are great. No extra weight on anything. Just drift the edge of bars. Cut bait 2-3" long, and taper to point, hook in wide part. Let him swallow the bait, they have small hooks, and even deep hooked fish are easy to get out. The WILL NOT let it go unless you pick the rod up before he swallows it. Don't hold the rod, you'll be too tempted to set the hook early. Beafort inlet is too deep, but there's good fishing behind Lookout. Try it. It works!!! good luck guys!

Just got back to the house. Had a great weekend with Sharky Pam and my neighbors Tim & Diane. Had a chance to meet a couple of CSO members... wjsmith82 and his 3 boys and caught up with Eel at the dock with his family.

Saturday we trolled outside of Shackleford Banks and ran up to the CALO rock jetty and trolled some more around the jetty buoy. All in all we picked up 8 Spanish. Sharky Pam was particularly impressed with her 2 1/2 pound ~ 19-1/2" catch... which was the very first nab of the morning.

Here's Tim & Diane after their big day on the DLV.

We let the girls go wander around the lighthouse. Man!!! It looked like Myrtle Beach with all the people and boats that was at the light house. We opted for a more quiet surrounding where we had lunch.

Ran back towards MHC on the back side of Shackleford and it was absolutely nuts in Beaufort Inlet with all the boat traffic. I suddenly gained a whole lot of appreciation for all my visits to the area in the off season.

Sunday we made a run to AR315 but came up dry. The eight or so boats that were there had all left out one by one so that wasn't a good sign. Heading back we saw some boat traffic in front of Bogue Inlet Pier so we dropped some trolling lines and came up with eight more Spanish. About lunch time we had to run back in because of an approaching storm. Good time for a nap as it was low tide. Went back out late afternoon on the north side of Beaufort Bridge where we caught the usually smattering of throw backs. Also snuck into the Haystacks at high tide but nothing there except bait stealers.

Looking forward to next weekend's trip and hoping for a warmup with the water temperatures.

I picked up you guys on Channel 71 for a few minutes but we were halfway up the North River and the reception was spotty. I know you guys all had a good time. We had it kinda choppy on the J-14. My son grabbed a few hermit crabs and we got some color on our pale bodies. Gotta move up a size or 2. Glad you had as good a weekend as your report sounds. Glad you got home safely.

Thanks Joe. Maybe we can catch up with you another time. Yeah, the North River is open to that SE windflow isn't it? It was pretty choppy in Beaufort Inlet also, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

:secret: I'm waiting to hear about Capt Lukes floundering adventures.

Sorry to have missed you Broke. We were inside the hook at CALO about that time and I think wjsmith82 was poking around for some flounder in one of the side creeks back there in the marshes. Looks like you and the little man were having a good day. *Cheers*

We fished out of Swansboro that weekend and slayed the Spanish. Sorry, I know that this is a late post.......just joined today though. We are going back this weekend and will be launching at either HI Bridge or CalicoJacks. If you ever see a 19' DLX with "Sea Dawgs" on the side, it will be myself or my brother.......
