The closest wildlife ramp is in Cedar Point on hwy 24 about 5 miles from Emerald Isle. There is a pay ramp at a marina on Emerald Isle but I can't think of the name. The beginning of Sept. usually marks the first "mullet blow" and they will be everywhere inside and out so finding bait will be easy with a castnet. Redfish will be eating anything you put in front of them and they will be in the surf and in the marshes. They will range in size from the mid-teens to low 30's in inches. flounder, blues, and spanish will be in range of a small boat. Speckled trout can be caught in the dark and at sunrise and sunset. Bogue inlet and it's surrounding waters will keep you busy for a week. It's a good time to go fishing. Post up before you go to get a current report. *014*

It depends on where you are trying to go and where you are staying on EI. I know that if cross back over onto the main land and go to Swansboro, there is a wildlife ramp there at Caspers, then on the other end when you cross the turn basin there is a ramp there at Radio Island Marina, unless they have changed it, you used to be able to launch there as well. There is also a wildlife ramp there in Beaufort a few blocks from the air port. The only bad thing about that ramp is that is shallow at low tide and its a steep ramp. Also there is one on front street in Beaufort down close to where the old fish factory was, opposite end of all the shops.....hope that this helps a little.

Island Harbor Marina has a launch. I rented a boat from them in 2003. The channel is pretty well marked. I do not know what they charge for launching or mooring. This might be the place Gregg referred to.

Wow, it has been a while since you've been down here ;D The ramp at radio island has been gone for several years... that was one of my favorites. The Bft airport ramp has been moved a little to construct a new and much improved ramp very near the same location, using the same parking lot... just opened up last month. It's the closest public ramp to Bft Inlet. The one near the old fish factory, we call the "Taylor's Creek Ramp" is open as usual and a good place to ramp if fishing the North River, Middle Marshes, and that general area. See this link Ed & Brenda posted (post #3 above) for more ramps along the Crystal Coast.
Gregg, if you can pin-point that pay ramp on EI, (maybe with GoogleEarth) I'll go visit it and report on it in our "Ramp" thread.

We spent all of last week in Emerald Isle and used the Cedar Point boat ramp and the ramp at Shell Rock Landing (near the Red Barn Rest.). We also went down to the Taylor's Creek Ramp (this is a good bit farther away than Cedar point or Shell Rock landing).
Your best bet is to use the Cedar Point ramp (back towards Swansboro), although parking is really limited here so get there early. It is a very short boat ride back up to Emerald Isle from that ramp.
We also found a tiny boat ramp that is public access just past Emerald Isle heading into Salter Path on the sound side. Its at the end of the street with no parking and houses on both sides. I wouldn't try to launch anything large there, but a j series would do fine. It was located on 13th street on Emerald Isle.

There is also on on Cedar Tree Lane on Emerald Isle:

I haven't used either of these two, but I think it would be fine around high tide. Not sure how low the water gets at this location around low tide, but I wouldn't chance it.
This is interesting BTW.

I remember about a year ago that a proposal for a public ramp at the foot of the EI bridge fell through. I do hope this one gets funded. A ramp at that location would be great, would provide convenient access to a lot of good fishing/boating water not easily accessed now, and the proposed site would be the largest public ramp in the state!!!

wjsmith nailed it on the pay ramp on Emerald Isle, Island Harbor marina, #14 on Ed's map. #8 at Cedar Point is the closest wildlife "free ramp".

Sadly enough, I go down to Harkers Island or Swansboro rather often and I always launch at the same 2 ramps. Sorry for the misguided information everybody, and I will try and give more accurate information next time, haha.
