anyone know anything about the Tie Down ENG Super Lubes? They came on my Road King Trailer for my J16. Are they like bearing buddies?

The Super Lubes have a zerk fitting on the face and all ya gotta do is flush some fresh grease through the bearing assembly and cleanup the old stuff that comes running out. The Bearing Buddies maintain a positive pressure on the bearings and in theory keep water out. I'm told that you can adapt Bearing Buddies to a Super Lube setup. I had called Wesco about that last year and they said some of their customers were using the BB's on the Super Lubes.

Can you take off the TDE Super Lubes off and put BB's in their place?

The BB's are a snap on grease delivery device, not a hub assembly. The Super Lube hubs are a special bearing/hub configuration that allows grease to be pumped through the assembly, essentially repacking the bearings on the fly (no disassembly). I believe that all you have to do is remove the zerk fitting and cap to adapt a Bearing Buddy to the hub. You probably should contact TDE for the exact procedure and approval for the modification.

We had a discussion about this approach and here's the links on that. I had to eat a little crow for passing on some bad info as you will see. *001*

Note that we were talking about Posi-Lube hubs but if I'm not mistaken the Super Lubes are essentially the same animal. Someone correct me on that if I'm wrong.

See post #19 for the meat of it;

And here's the thread in it's entirety.

Thanks for the info Shake! Probably stick with the Super Lubes for now...they look like a good design anyway. I found a PDF with diagrams and tech specs for these things via google and it had a lot of good info that made me feel confident about its operation. Seems to be very similar to a bearing buddy w/o the positive pressure against the bearing, but it does have the nice grease exchange system.

I far prefer the Super Lube to BB's! Pump fresh grease in and old grease comes out. To me the ultimate system, basically repacking at a zerk.

If it is made by Tie Down I would not trust it. The failure of their axles are to blame for the wear issues with Road King trailer tires. They have so far failed to honor the warranty on the Road King trailer and the axles.

Hopefully my situation is an anomaly, and not indicative of all of all of their products and customer service.
