I have a yamaha 90 tlrb motor that I am having trouble getting the steering mechanism lubed. I found three lube sites and when I put the grease gun to them old grease comes out where I would expect. There are two right on the front of the motor that I am sure grease the tilt and one underneath that can only be accessed when the motor is up somewhat. No matter how I try, I can not get grease on the steering shaft. It has locked before and I beat on it until it came loose. When the shaft is out, it is dry. I must not be greasing the right area. What do I need to do to get grease in the cylinder to lube this shaft?????

thanks

I had the same problem with my Aquasport and 90 hp Johnson.

When the cable was in the "out" position, it would dry out and seize up. the grease fitting seemed to not cover the outside end of the cable ??
I used White lithoum grease on the exposed part, after freeing it up and always stored it with the wheel turned so the cable was back in the sleeve when not in use. It worked for a while , but I wound up having to replace the teleflex cable anyway.

PS,
Welcome to the site !!!

What I do is use Seize that you can get at an automotive store in a container that has a brush attached to the lid and brush it on. you also can buy it in a spray can. It is best however to remove the steering shaft from its sleeve and spray or bursh the sleeve in the inside of the sleeve. An outboard mechanic alerted me to it and I have found it works. It actually is the sleeve that gets the corrision and rust as the shaft is usually stainless. The fit is so tight that not a great deal of lube gets inside the sleeve when you brush it on the outside. Seize if you are not familar with it is an anti corrosion anti rust lubricating compound. Don't get the copper get it in the grey can if you use it and keep it off you it won't come out of clothes and is hard to get the the color off you hands.
