what kind of fishing? i have a second place in crystal river, and fish south towards ozello (just north of homosassa) a lot. if you are talking about inshore, run out the river to the mouth and turn north. buy a satallite photo map of the area, it will help a LOT. there is endless amounts of mangrove islands and back country water that hold lots of redfish and trout. look for the reds early morning along east facing shorelines where there is some type of rock, shell, or hard bottom. live shrimp and soft plastics (salt-n-pepper color), or gold spoons have been working good recently. the trout will be in the grass around 3-5'. make sure it is turtle grass and try drifting with shrimp under corks or your fav soft plastic. there is a LOT of inshore areas that all hold fish. keep moving around if you're not getting any bites. i normally dont stay in one spot more than 15 minutes without a fish. watch the tides, they have been dropping VERY quickly lately with this NE wind. and it gets incredibly shallow in some of the back water areas.

Thanks for the advise. I was looking at the images on Google Earth and it all looks pretty good. We are after Redfish so I will give it a shot by the outside islands for sure. Why the east side of the islands? How is the live bait situation over there? Pin fish, Chubs (mud minnows), etc?

Thanks a bunch for the advise.

in the early morning hours the sun hits the east facing shorelines first warming them quicker, hence why the reds are most active here early. live bait has been plentiful out in the shallow grass. it usually only takes about 15 minutes to fill your livewell with pins. pigfish make excellent bait, as they are constantly grunting and making noise. the live shrimp from the bait stores has been on the small side lately. it's been hit or miss finding good shrimp.

Sounds good. I am heading there right after work tomorrow. I'll take the cast net.

It turned out to be a family trip and we had a great time. We went over on Friday night and stayed at McRae's. Woke up Saturday to the rain but we grabbed some shrimp(small and half dead)and headed out anyway. It rained off and on till around 2:00 pm and it was blowing pretty good. We lost a two nice Redfish at first light. It was windy and hard to find good bait due to the conditions but we did drum up a few dozen small pinfish. One of my 5 year old sons caught a small Bonnet Head Shark and the other came up with a small trout and a hand sized Mangrove Snapper.

The weather got the best of us but I can see the potential. My Lowrance GPS decided it didn't want to turn on so we did not do much exploring either. We will give it another shot soon.

Thanks for the advise!
