Hi,I'm new to this forum and just ordered a new 1980 dlx from ED'S which I will pick up in the next few weeks. But of all the pictures I have seen I haven't seen where to tie off my anchor line on the bow other than the side cleats on port and starbord areas.Do you drill and mount and eye hook center bow area?

I mounted a line chock centerline on the forward deck and two off each side of the motor. I run the line through the chock then to a cleat.

Thanks, thats a little more low profile than a eye bolt on the bow.

Here's a copy of an article from Tampa about a boating incident with dire circumstances. Anchor line should always be tied off of bow on centerline of boat.

stern anchoring can be done, but very very carefully with a watchful eye on everything. Everything about boaters safety i have ever read however say DO NOT EVER anchor from the stern.......just throwing it out there.

Even with a watchfull eye, if things go bad you are in deep trouble. Lets say you see the weather coming or a big wake and trying to pick up the anchor, you rope gets stuck on a spinning prop, what do you do now?
There should be no anchoring from the stern PERIOD.

Ok fellas, we've all heard about the tragedy off the Florida coast. Out of respect for EDDIE353 (he's new around here ya know) can we get back to his inquiry? *thumbsup*

I mounted a pair of skene bow chocks, one on either side of the bow. Like Tawn, I run the anchor line through one of the chocks and tie off to the side cleat. Here is a link to the ones I used. I can snap a picture later if you'd like one. They use a #10 mounting screw, but I drilled the mounting holes out to fit a 1/4" flathead bolt and used a large fender washer on the underside of the bow lip.

Hogtown, I'd sure like to see a picture of this setup. Would it be possible to show the anchor line running through the chock to the cleat?

Thanks! *Cheers*

I just installed a cleat on the bow lip. The cleat points runs with the bow. I have'nt had any problems with it at all. Works great. I dont understand why they dont install them on the skiffs in the factory.

Here is what I went with. I loath side anchoring.
Thanks NEM for being forceful against stern anchoring, Extremely dangerous.

I like the bow chock idea, and have been thinking about it for a while. I usually run the anchor line over the bow, between the railings and tie to the side cleat, but it still doesn't get it perfectly centered causing some 'swinging' while on the hook.

Thanks,

I can tell ya anchoring can be a big dollar deal !

Back in 2000 pops made a very nice pulpit out of oak and walnut Laminated together and glassed it over.

Had it mounted to the bow of the C-Hawk worked fine till this past year when it took some water intrusion and rotted !

Now he added a roller similar to this

and a wench similar to this one

Manteo Marine is doing the work on this rig and wiring up on this project .
I hope it's done by my first trip in early June *008* :secret:

Well just goes to show ya how to drop a load of money on a anchoring system.

Thanks for the pic Insideout. I was wondering... looking at line of sight between the chock and the cleat, doesn't the rode cross the deck enough to become a tripping hazard?

The bow chocks up on Cabellas comes in pairs, one righthanded and one lefthanded. If you were to offsett the placement of each a few inches off center wouldn't that get the rode a little more up on the bow lip?

Shakespeare,

I used an angled bow chock(only one on the starboard side, TM is in the way on the port) and it keeps the anchor rode up on the raised lip of the deck. I think my front deck is a little different configuration than yours but they should be similar.http://www.carolinaskiffowner.com/picture.php?albumid=19&pictureid=2800

Check with 1stSgtUSMCRet. He has two angled bow chocks on his DLV and I don't remember the anchor rode being in the way.
