Hello I'm new here. Great site!!
Anyway, getting ready to pull the trigger on a new Suzuki DF 150 for my semi v 2390. Any thoughts or comments.
Thanks, HG

Hi and welcome to the site !!
My buddy has a 218 DLV with the 140 Suzuki and loves it. Plenty of power and sips the fuel....
Here's what your looking at, sounds good to me. I have a 198 DLV with the Zuki 90. No problems what so ever....
Ultimate I-4 Technology
Incomparable expertise, world-class technology, cutting-edge ideas and design - all are present in the new DF175 and DF150 4-stroke outboards. These are the most powerful four-cylinder engines Suzuki has ever built. The DF175 and the DF150 incorporate advances Suzuki engineers have made in 4-stroke engine performance. As a result, they are remarkably lightweight and compact while providing improved fuel efficiency and lower emissions. At Suzuki, our goal is to offer boaters the most enjoyment possible while on the water, and the new DF175 and the DF150 are certain to uphold our commitment.
Largest Displacement in Their Class
The new DF150 and DF175 utilize an all-new inline four-cylinder four-stroke engine with a DOHC four-valve powerhead that produces 150hp (110kW) and 175hp (129kW) respectively. At 2,867cm3 (174.9 cu.in.), these two outboards offer the largest displacement in the four-stroke, four-cylinder category to date. And thanks to Suzuki's innovative engineering, they are the lightest in their category to date.
VVT (Variable Valve Timing) (DF175)
In designing the DF175, our goal was to expand the potential of the four-stroke engine and create an outboard that delivers high performance along with the benefits of four-stroke technology. Like the flagship DF250, the DF175 is designed with an aggressive cam profile and paired with Suzuki's advanced Variable Valve Timing (VVT) to increase the low to mid-range torque outboards need when accelerating. The intake valve actually starts to open before the exhaust valve fully closes, creating a momentary overlap in the timing where both valves are open. Using Variable Valve Timing, this overlap can be increased or decreased by altering intake timing with the camshaft, thereby optimizing camshaft timing for low and mid-range operation.
Multi-Stage Induction (MSI)
The DF150 and DF175 incorporate a multi-stage induction system to enhance engine performance by changing the length of intake manifold pipes according to engine speed. The system utilizes two intake manifold pipes per cylinder, one for operating at low engine speed and another for operating at high. At lower rpm, air enters the combustion chamber through the longer manifold pipe, which is designed to deliver an optimum volume of fresh air into the chamber to improve combustion and boost low-end torque.
As the engine speed surpasses a preset threshold, the valve on the direct intake pipe opens up, letting air enter instantly into the combustion chamber. Shorter and lacking resistance, this pipe gets a greater volume of air into the chamber, increasing the engine's ability to breathe at high rpm, thus improving high speed power output.
Suzuki engineers have equipped these outboards with many other advanced features that contribute to engine performance. A spherical bore throttle body produces smoother airflow during acceleration. This results in greater engine control and stable operation at low rpm.

Ed's marine is having a sale. Is it possible to get the motor up and running myself, or is dealer involvement a must?
Thanks, HG

i've hung a couple small outboards (like 35hp) myself on my J16, but seeing as how yours is going to be bigger, i'd try to have a dealer install it. their not that "hard" to do, just time consuming and if you let them do it, they have to deal with any possible screw ups.

Not sure what you mean by "up & running"
I bought my boat from ED's as a "pre-rig" package. Everything was ready to go when I picked it up . All I had to do was break in the motor.
I asked about getting an e-tec instead of the "pre-rig" Suzuki and the price went through the roof. They want you to stay with what the "pre-rig" is set up with and price them to move.
Needless to say I went with the Suzuki and have been very happy with it.
EDIT
I just saw that your wanting to re-power and not buy a whole boat and all,,,,,,,, Sorry, It's getting late 001

The engine is installed, up and running. Haven't had the boat out yet. There is a black hose coming out the front of the motor with a plug and a tie wrap around it, is this to drain somthing?? Any info?
Thanks.

Might be the flush hose?? That's not been hooked up. Does it look like it would fit on a water hose? If so, more than likely that's what it is. DON'T run the engine with this, only for flushing, at least thats how it is on a Yama. :)

No, this is a small hose about a quarter inch in diamater. Has a plug stuck in, then a tie wrap to clamp the plug in place.

I don't think it's a speedo, It's a hose...... Another question what props fit this motor? Merc.. OMC is there a general grouping or is it Suzuki DF-150 only??
Thanks, HG

HG,
The speedo uses a hose to operate. It works on air pressure. The intake on the motor picks up water that compresses the air in the hose to the gauge. The more water pressure(because of speed increasing) the more the air in the line is compressed and moves the speedo needle further up.
The hose may be the sppedo connection. On my 90 there is a similar hose but it has a connector running up to my speedo.

Have you found out what the hose is for yet? Also, I believe that Suzi makes the 4 stroke uppers for the Rudes so maybe an OMC prop might work??

I guess the speedo is an option, certainly makes sense. Had a boat once with a pitot tube hooked to a speedo, I guess the pickup on the motor could do the same thing. Certainly runs fine plugged up the way it is..... Still trying to get a handle on the prop situation. I'm guessing this motor will cross over to some other props, but the info is HARD to find. Thanks for the replies.
