HPS lights are kind of bulky and heavy, also more expensive than halogens. They also put out a yellow or amber light which I am not a big fan of. They also require a ballast and warm up time. However, they normally require much less power than halogens for considerably more light. It may be easier to mount some 500w halogens on a pvc pole and run the wire through the pvc which can be placed in a rod holder. I have mounted a 500 w halogen this way and we move it around to where we need it when bowfishing and it puts out tons of light. Here is what it looks like. (notice the threads on the bottom) It will thread right on conduit which can be put on 1" or 1 1/2" coduit which should fit perfectly in a rod holder. I will go outside and take a pic of my rod holders and give you an idea of how i would set it up.

We have an auto photo re-sizer. If you click on your picture we can see it fine.

By looking at were you want them I would suggest as others, to look into mounting rod holders in that area. The kind that have the pin across the bottom and put your light pole in them. Make sure the bottom of the poles are slotted and fit on the pin in the holders.

Type of light is your choice.

thanks for the replies and yes im definately gonna get some sturdy rod holders and as of why hps i just heard its better for bait fish and what brings less bugs and stuff too but if your halogen lights bring bait then i should prolly give that a try o and redfishray whats your approximate hieght of your light from the water and does it cover alot of water from that hieght?
