Slim to None

I spent the whole weekend over in Crystal River fishing and scalloping. Saturday I didn't get to fish at all, too much good college football on TV. But we did head back out on Sunday evening. Fished along the spoil banks and caught a bunch of small redfish. Only three were big enough to keep, and of the three I only kept the biggest one. Live shrimp on the bottom was the only thing they would bite. We had finger mullet and some cut bait, but they weren't interested in those. We probably could have caught fish all night, but a lightning storm ran us back in around 8:00pm. Went scalloping on monday with some great results. Stopped at only three places and filled our limit of 6 galloons. Then we went back out to the spoil banks and fished some more. This time though, it was black drum that were biting. Caught drum on almost every cast using live shrimp. Kept the one biggest drum, even though he was still small (16"). Not nearly as good of fishing as I was wanting, but at least we caught fish all day. I'm cooking up all the scallops, redfish, and drum tonight. It was a good weekend fishing, but way too crowded over there. At one of the no wake zones in the river, we had a jetski almost run into the back of our boat. There are too many "holiday boaters" over there. The ones that only come out on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day. Thankfully I didn't have to deal with the ramp! Oh yeah, I left the camera in Gainesville, so no pictures of cleaning scallops, sorry Gimpy. 001
