I am looking for a 1980 DLX or possible a 2180 DLX. If anyone knows of one for sale please let me know. I am in Louisiana but will be willing to drive considerable distance to pick up the boat (6 hours). I would like the engine to be at least a 90 2 stroke and preferably Yamaha or Suzuki. Thank you, Ray

You are looking for a good boat there, Ray!*Cheers*

Sorry, I'm not selling. Love the 198 with the 90. Whatever you buy, try to max out the hp for the boat.

Good Luck!

OBX, if you had to buy it again, would you have spent the extra money for the 115?

I bought my boat used, so I didn't have a choice.

If I was buying new, and had a choice, I would max out the hp.

Although, with the 90, I have no complaints. The boat is so light, it planes quickly and gets great gas mileage. My humble advice is if you find a used 198 with a 90, don't pass it up.

Hey, RFR. I got a 21 DLX with the 115 and would not want anything less, although it would do fine with a 90--just not as much get-up-and-go. I bought my boat new, and there was not too much difference in price between a 90 and 115. Before buying, I spent about six months looking for a used 19 or 21 ft. DLX series skiff. I saw a few 1980 DLXs but not one 2180. People around here tend to hold on to them, but then again that was before their 401k's bombed and all the rental houses that they had bought for investments took a dump. There may be some deals to be had now.

Good luck, and welcome to the site.*thumbsup*

Thanks Libra, I just left a message. I may even know someone who could pick up a boat from around that area.

I have a 2007 198 DLV for sale. Not exactly what you are looking for, but still a great boat. It is loaded, 115 Suzuki 4 stroke, custom t top, electronic box, vhf, stereo, cd, Garmin 498 GPS, leaning post, etc. Very low hours. We had a baby in May and are out of the "boating business" for a while. I am in Charleston, but would be willing to drive a fair distance to meet a serious buyer to make the transfer. Contact me if you are interested. My email address is kurtbecht2@comcast.net

A rig like this at the Greensboro boat show last year was 15K new w/out the electronics.
As to the HP, mine was only rated for a 100 hp and guess what, nobody made a 4 stroke 100 hp at the time. That's why I've got a 90 hp on mine. The newer 198 DLX's are rated for a 115. Don't ask why the difference. I can't see a thing. I'm with OBX on this one, max out if you can although, you will be happy with a 198/90F.

Has anyone taken a look at the 1980 listed in Wilmington? Sounds like a lot of boat for the money and thats probably negotiable. I agree that a 115 would be my preference but hey, the 60 on my 17 is pretty strong..

Libra, I called the number on the ad and left a message but I did not get a response back. I am still looking throughout the internet several times a day but I have not had much luck. It seems like no one likes to sell the 1980 and the 2180. I even have a guy lined up to drive to the Carolinas or Virginia if I find the right boat.

In that case, have you called Ed's Marine Super Store to get their price on a new boat - you might be pleasantly surprised what you find. If you are like many of us CS owners, you'll want to customize and build your skiff to suit your own preference, rather than take what someone else did to theirs. Even the electronics that often come with a used skiff, are often not what you really want and soon become items that you will replace, and that means more and sometimes different mounting holes/locations, in addition to the cost of these accessories. Just a though - a used boat can be a good deal but if the used boat market is slim (for what you are looking for) and you can get a new boat and motor at little more than the price of a used one, well, you might find it best to start out with a fresh, clean canvass ;D

Thanks 1st Sgt, I have called EDS and the price is very reasonable, I was just trying to look at the used possibilities first. I actually stumbled upon a boat today that looks exactly like what I want. I am going to look at it tomorrow and hopefully I will be the owner of a 218 DLX by tomorrow night. I am going to start a new post so that I can get some info from yall about the boat.

I went and looked at a 2006 21 DLX w/ 115 Suz last night. He was asking 14k and the boat looked outstanding! It came with two live wells, hatch covers, 27 gal tank, bimini top and some rod holders as well as a 70# thrust trolling motor and spare tire for trailer. I offered 13,500 and am now the owner of a 21 DLX. I am pumped! I will post pics of boat soon as well as the fish slaughter that is about to happen in that boat. On a bad note, I, like an idiot left the stern anchor light in on the 250 mile ride home and it did not make it. I also had an unfortuate event happen with the transom strap, it came off and banged into the side of the previously flawless motor and put about 50 dings in the paint. *001* Hopefully some will wax out and if not, I will probably have it painted. Anybody know how much the anchor light cost's?

Outstanding purchase! Sorry to hear about the dings in the motor. I don't know for sure but the anchor light sould be at or less than 20 bucks *006* That is a fairly universal light, so you may be able to find a replacement at WalMart or one of the marine supply houses - worse case, you can order one from a CS dealer.

Good luck!

About boats and boat trailers - MURPHY is ever-present and he's spelled with capital letters *Cheers*

NC Hwy 70 and it's roadside ditches are littered with all manner of boating paraphernalia all summer long, for 100 miles, from Kinston, NC to Atlantic Beach. Most common sightings are cooler lids, whole coolers, and life jackets... and a never ending supply of (free for the picking) 5 gallon buckets ;D

Congrats on the purchase! You will love the boat. Looking forward to the pictures. *014*

You should be able to get touch up paint from a suzuki dealer.

With the skiff, you will be in the skinny water and get the motor dinged up. So, its good to get practice.:)
