I did a Google search looking for info on the used CS 17 I just bought. So far it has been really helpful and I have only had it 2 days. 012

I just bought a 1995 CS 17 with a 1989 Suzuki engine. It has been out of the water for almost three years. The engine was in good running condition when it came out of the water. Has really low hours for a 1989 motor. I know this because I got it from a good friend who has had it since new. I am wondering what all I should do to the engine before trying to fire it. I am considering pulling the carbs and cleaning along with fuel lines, pulling the oil injector and flushing it out. I am also going to pull the lower unit and replace water pump. Any more suggestions. I have worked on outboards a bit, but I did buy the service manual. ???

You may want to replace the fuel lines - the new ethanol fuel may eat the old ones up. I would try to start it without messing with the carbs - If it wont start or run/idle then look to the carbs. Sitting for three years isnt ridiculously long. Do you know if the fuel in the boat /carbs was stabilized before it sat? Was the boat run with the fuel lines disconnected so that all fuel in the carbs were burned off? This will affect how much if any varnishing of fuel you have in the carb/jets. If there is a primary fuel filter on the motor that should be swapped out too. Use fresh fuel and decarb it after its running. This is what i would do on an older johnson/rude. I never had an older 2 stroke Suzuki. My buddy used to have twin 200 s strokes on a World cat. They ran great but were thirsty!
