My name is Joel and I have on or around boats most of my life.

I just sold my boat (TwinVee cat) and am looking to purchase a 2790 DLX "kit boat" and install a Classic XS pilothouse from Pacific Pilothouse and do the rest of the work myself.

I take great joy in rigging boats - that way I know it's done right and if something goes wrong - it's easier to diagnose and fix.

Hopefully I can find a good deal on a 2790 and let the fun begin.

Cheers,

Joel

I checked out the Pacific Pilothouse, wow they are expensive. I am going to buy a 2790 DLX in March and install an entire cabin on it for about 5K for the cabin materials. I am buying the materials from NIDACORE.COM . Light weight materials (12 to 16 oz per sq. ft.), plus lexan for the windows at about $100 a window. The best price I found last summer for the 2790DLX was at Ed's Marine in Ashland VA. I'll start checking prices again in Jan. and order my boat from the results (best price + distance from my home).

Sounds like you are biulding my dream boat.... Welcome aboard!! You will find a great group here.... I hope to do the Great Loop trip!!! I guess this will happen after the kids are out of college. 6 years and counting.

Every time I go into Long Isalnd to visit family I stop at the carolina skiff dealer and look at the BIG Empty hull and dream away.

What do you plan on putting on the the back of her? Bow deck? How far forward will the house start?

It's winter time in Pa. with snow and I trying to gain support for the building of a larger boat building shed...I need dreaming ideas!!!

So where are the plans?? Cabin lay out? Cabin size? Motor size? My dream is to have trailable boat to complete the Great Loop Trip!!! I'm figuring on a layout like a european canal barge. Make the liveable cabin in a removeable section So I can have two boat in one. Maybe make the cabin structure some kind of half hard side half canvas. Set up at night when at anchor.
Ok! now i'm just dreaming in a runon sentence

hi fellow boat lovers

(the above hi was from my 11 year old daughter, never leave your computer unlocked when you go downstairs to get a cup of coffee!)

BTW, we are in Dover, what part of Delaware are you from?

Too Tall, the cabin will be 17' with a 3' long deck at sole level in the the back for drainage purposes and a 6 foot long raised deck up front. My cabin roof will be 7' in the center and rolling to a 6' 6" side height, this will permit the (5) 5" roof supports. Also the sides will roll inward so the top will be 1' narrower than the bottom. This hopefully will prevent side winds from rolling the boat so much. If the boat is stable enough I will put a small deck on the front 1/3 of the top for at anchor use only. The boat will do well with only a 25hp E-tech but the boss wants a 115 E-tech, so quess what it will have. She wants to be able to get to land quick in case of a storm or an emergency, I just want to putt along. I actually bought my plans for the entire boat from Bateau.com but am only going to use the house part of the plans and alter the measurements to fit the 2790DLX. I want the raised front deck to shed water over the sides and the deck level rear deck to shed water through holes on the back. At least these are my thoughts now, I will mock it up when I get the boat home and see what looks and works best.

How big is the pilothouse?
Sounds like a little like a Long Island Clamming Garvey. I had a 24' Clamming Garvey in my days as a clammer *018**018**018*

WELCOME
I remember years ago "1980's" seeing a lot of aft cc skiffs
on the outer banks !!! I think most were working nets with them ..

I have also seen one of the 2790's on Hatteras the last few years..

You just can't grasp how big they are till you see one up close.

Well good luck and please start a picture journal here on CSO your project is unique and we would love to follow your progress ! *015*
