I'm very new to boating and have a used F75TLRD, (2005) with less than 100 hours. I was told that when replacing the fuel/water filter; to pour the gasoline that's inside the filter into a glass jar.

The water and gasoline will separate and that it is diagnostic, in that it will tell you about motor performance/problems/efficiency? It's a screw on filter, and after being told this, I am reluctant to change the filter because I really don't know/understand what it is I am looking for. Make any sense?

Not sure if it will tell you about performance/problems/efficiency, but it will tell you if there is water in your gasoline which will effect what you mentioned.

Water and gas mix like oil and vinager, if you don't see water at the bottom of the jar that is a good thing.

If it's a glass/clear filter, you don't have to remove it to see the water. If you had any, you engine would have already told you so. :secret:

I would change the filter every year, regardless of how much/little I used the boat. It is too easy not to change it for the peace of mind it brings.
