Redfish

Yesterday was a great day to be alive and on the Suwannee. Day started off very cool (heavy frost on the fields when we pulled out). The run down the river was very snappy, and the crew quickly found a spot either behind the front deck or behind the cooler. The captain just had to hunker down behind the console and window shield. Boy it felt good to get into the creek about 20 mins later. Tide was real low, but we made it into our favorite creek without even bumping. First fish of the day, a nice convict caught up along side a big oyster bar.

Oyster bars were all out most of the morning. Wind was just enough to keep the sand gnats off of us. We worked the creek until the tide turned out catching a mixed bag of redfish, sheepshead, smallish black drum, and trout. Most of the reds were short, but we did end up with a keeper or two and plenty of other "creek fish" to stink up the grease. Here's one of our specks:

As you can see, it warmed up nicely by mid-day--enough so that the crew shed their jackets.
We finished the day with a beautiful sunset. This is my favorite time of the year to fish our little part of the the Gulf coast.
