Hey what's that little boom (Arm) holding the handline?? Looks neat.....
My wife and kids LOVE to crab, but I can't sit still long enough. Please tell me about that boom and maybe I will hook them up.

Trot line for sure....
Mugged the crabs this past summer right here in good 'ole NJ!
We averaged 120+ crabs per trip in about 5 hours of crabbing!
Be sure to have you $2 license and no more than 150 ft with 25 baits per trot! 2 per man!
I'll try ot put more detailed informationm about this a bit later...but if anyone wants to take a peak at the setup, I'm here in Moorestown, NJ and the equipment is with me...in 3 weeks...GONE!
Back to the salt!

PS...not even a nibble on the Bertram!
We're taking the motors out and replacing them with cots so we can nap after crabbing! :D :D :D

I'm in Oaklyn, not far from you. I work in Westmont. My buddy has had his 35 Viking for sale for longer than your boat and no nibbles either. I think the boat market follows the housing market!
Whats the interior of the boat like?
Also, what is your garlic crab recipie?

How do you guys boil your crabs? Im from South Louisiana and we dont sprinkle anything on them before we boil them. We put all the seasonings and fixings in the pot and boil them. I have never seen it done like that before?

Anyone ever clean there crabs before cooking them? It's really easy and makes eating them much more enjoyable. IMO... My brother-in-law showed me how to last summer and now i am hooked. My neighbor made a crab cleaning device/board with nails. For me a screw driver works best. If anyone has not done this let me know and I will post some instrutions...

OK.
First break the claws off. (I have only done this immediately after the catch, but my neighbor puts them in a cooler with a couple frozen 2liter bottles of water for a couple of hours). This slows down their reaction time. Not a big deal to me, of course I have been bitten yet.
Next, stomach/bottom up and take a flathead screwdriver and stick it between the upper/top and lower/bottom shell at the tail end.
Shove the screw driver all the way to the eye sockets.
While holding the upper/top shell with a finger/fingers, bry the shells apart. Throw the bottom shell to the side along with any all other non-eatable parts.
Take a knife and cut in 1/2, dividing the two sides. Wash/rinse in running water. Once clean throw in container/pot along with claws.
I have found that wearing gloves or a glove makes this process a little more enjoyable.
Ready to cook! ;D ;D
Let me know how it turns out for you...

As soon as I get some in the traps, I'll try it. Thanks. The ones in the pictures above appear to be baked, with breadcrumbs and garlic on them. Just my guess, come on Lollypop, give us your recipe, please.........

I grab them with the three side legs between my thumb and forefinger of my left hand. With my right thumb, I put it under the point of the shell and simply pry it up an off. I can do it so that I have a cleaned crab with claws attached. Other times I take the claws off first. OK I'm hungry now!

Maybe I'll put the pot in this weekend and see if I can try both methods.............. :)

Posted a recipe in the crabbing forum...
Gotta clean 'em first...
After my first trip, I'll video cleaning a crab live and post it...need to ice them down so they go dormant...
My brother and I can clean a crab in less than 8 seconds...real easy and real fast...
