I'm considering a poling platform for my 218dlv to get me up in the air. I have had no problem poling just want to get higher. Where have you guys purchased yours and how much???

Me too. I'm pricing one for the front deck and I'm see prices around $395.00. I have a PM sent for Raymond at Martin Marine about a custom motor bracket. I bet he could quote a platform too. You may want to contact him too. *kickrock*

The one on the back of my boat was an original CS part. The previous owner of my 17 DLX had that installed by his CS dealer rather than a cooler seat. When I bought the 198 dlx, I had the polling platform removed from the 17 and installed on the 19. I really like the platform. We actually sit on the platform while fishing, plus its also a great height for the cutting board. Keeps my dogs away from the bait! Probably the most popular spot on the boat when fishing.
You may want to contact your skiff dealer and ask them for a price.

Here is a pic of the boat. I am assuming the platform will work on a DLV as well. Check the CS website for dimensions, the platform is in the PDF catalog.
EDIT: Having trouble with pic. Won't load. Check my album.

I may need a custom one built because of my jack plate and Power Pole. *006* I have to look at this before I start drilling tons of holes!!! *001*

I had one custom made to fit (transom/deck mount). It was a good addition, especially if you do any sight casting. I looked at the one that CS sells and was a bit worried about durability and stability plus, if I read correctly it was made for the J-series skiffs.

Here is the pic of our boat- (ie. MINE and OBX HOKIES) and the factory CS platform, after our little incident that you can see one of the pictures (story for another day), we had it transfered to the 198, and not once has the pole been in the boat- I love it, It adds one more place for someone to fish from, even if you are just leaning on it- and it makes you look like that much more of a serious fisherman, at least people think you know whats going on...*Cheers*

Tparkin, that looks like a nice platform. More sturdy than mine. I haven't had any problems with the ruggedness of the platform. I weigh 230# and was standing on the platform this weekend. And the transom didn't break!
BTW, when are you going to offer those wraps to CSO members????

Good looking platform but I do question your choice of a parking place.;D

Yeah, that was the old 17 DLX. I really liked that boat. On a two lane road on the way to the beach, a young man fell asleep at the wheel, crossed over the yellow line and hit the boat right at the wheel of the trailer, traveling at 55 mph west with my son traveling 55 mph east. Fortunately, my son, (fishin jones), evaded the head on collision by rubbing the rail on the side. Totalled the trailer and boat, damaged the tahoe bumper. The axle to the trailer was 50 yds behind resting spot. Whats done is done. I'm still arguing with insurance agents so best not to go in to too many details.
The local marina is selling the motor, it never touched the ground. Loved that motor, too. 30 day warranty.
No need to go in to details. Son, daughter, son's girlfirend and our dogs were all ok. That is what truly matters. *thumbsup* I feel blessed that the boat and trailer were damaged. No need to rehash it all here. Blink of an eye, everything could have been so much worse. Boats are cheap compared to the alternative. *Cheers*
We are happy to have the 198 now. We truly enjoy the boat, I would have upgraded to a larger boat anyway. While in between boats, we enjoyed some time together on an inshore charter and on a big "rent-me" pontoon boat. That was a Good time. That is where I got the idea of the kitty litter in a 5 gallon bucket, as that porta potty had kitty litter in a bag in the porta pottie rather than the blue stuff. All the girls still used it! (See porta - potty help thread)
(Oh, and one other thing. Always insure your boat at replacement value not actual cash value. That saved me from loosing my shirt.)

Glad everyone was okay, just remember that in NC we do allow you to tow a boat... we just prefer that it's on a trailer when you do it.

I'm always open to negotiation and they're not as bad as you may expect on the skiffs since I can print both sides on one pass of material...it tends to save on the most expensive part of the equation. I may contact the admin and try to work out something with a site sponsorship thing.

Hi everyone! I've had a J16 now for less then a year. Trolling motor gets me around but would like to put a poling platform on one day, however I heard that it wasn't worth it because the cs don't track well with the flat bottom. How have you guys overcome this issue?

Welcome to the site,
Might want to start a new topic about trolling motors on a "J " series boat to get a better response.

Harry,
you might want to reread his post. ontopontap has a poling platform and handling question.
ontopontap,
Welcome to the site. Harry's advice about starting a new thread may still be valid since this thread is already very long and has been sidetracked a few times. I'm sure someone here can address your question.

ontop- yes the J16 poles like a pain in the butt! if there is any wind or cross current you will just kinda slide around, sometimes in circles! most of the time i would pole from my front deck to overcome this nuisance! since it is flat bottom there is nothing to "track" in the water, so when you are not pushing with the pole the boat will not continue on a straight path. the more experienced you get at poling the easier it will become, but it will never pole like a true technical poling skiff with a slight V bottom. again after a few trips out on my J16 i gave up on the idea of a rear mounted platform to pole from. now a casting platform on the front deck would be nice! double duty for casting and poling!

Thanks Slim! That pretty much confirmed my thoughts. I have also thought about getting a casting platform for the front but never thought about using it as a poling platform as well. Good idea!

i have a j16 that i just put a platform on. i have used the platform and must say it works fine. the way i stop it from going allover the place is by leaving the motor in the water. i trim it up some and it tracks fine i do alot of skinny water fishinf in miami and must say im happy with the way it works. takes a little practice if you have never poled but once you get the hang of it it works great.http://cyberangler.com/photos/watermark.php?file=6769&size=1

There was a question earlier about the stability of the CS factory platform.
Well here is my impression of nanook of the north on top of the platform last week. Plenty sturdy.
Great place to sit and fish, lean and fish, cast and fish. I haven't used the push poll yet.
