i have two favorate lures for redfish and trout that i got out of my fresh water tackle box. for redfish a gold floating rattletrap works wonders. i remove the front hook a lot of times, if the structure is really bad. with the front hook gone, if you get hung just let the 'trap float up and most of the time it will unhang itself. and for trout i use a 4" black and tan rapala. they love them early in the morning on shallow grass flats. i use the floating/diving lipped ones. i'm usually only fishing 2-4' deep grass for trout. i've added a feather tail and it worked good until a spanish mack cut it off. i try to hit the "pot holes" where there's a sandy patch sorrounded by grass. the trout like to hang out on the edge in camoflauge!

I like the idea of removing the front hook. I saw a fishing show on Catch 47 ( local brighthouse station in Tampa area) And they were fishing out of Homosassa and the guide was using a rattle trap and he said he believes the reds think it is a crab because they usually smack it first like they do to a crab to stun it then come and eat it.
I am going to go buy one and try it. Right now I use a Exude Gold dart with a jig and it CATCHES EVERYTHING!
So far I have caught Trout, Reds, Flounder, Blue Fish, A couple of things that were real big but got away and Catfish, lady fish and lizard fish...... Well the last three prove no lure is perfect! I learned about the gold dart from the same show... The Average Angler Adventures With Host Glen Pla.... It is the best fishing show I have ever watched in my life... 003 I Love this Icon!

that makes sense that they think its a crab. i've experienced the same feeling with my bites, that they hit it hard at first but dont take the bait, then usually swim past it and turn around and come back for it. i never thought about it till now. i've gotten in the habit of stopping my retrieve when something hits it. i just kinda let it lay there like it was wounded. twitch it a lil and it seems to work. go get a rattletrap and try it, it's a blast to catch reds on. just remember to get a floating one. my dad tried using a suspended one last weekend and we were constantly going to unhang it.

Slim to None, where do you fish/salt water. I live in Spring Hill and fish mostly out of Bayport. Where do you go from Gainsville. Also do you ever fish in Lake panasoffkee(I know I killed that spelling) but you should know what I mean. I go there a lot to bass fish although its been in pretty bad shape lately due to lack of rain.

i fish mostly in the gulf around crystal river up to cedar key. i have yet to fish lake panasoffkee. i've heard that there is some good bass fishing there. i dabble a little in fresh water fishing, mostly for specs and catfish, but my brother loves bass fishing, so i do occassionally toss some plastic worms. the best lake we have in our area is either big orange lake or lake alto (near waldo).
