simple but useful item to have on your skiff. i keep a 3' or so length of 2" pvc pipe on my boat for various tasks. #1 it holds my umbrella up, i slide the pvc into a rod holder and the umbrella into the pvc, since i dont have a top on the J16 this works great! #2 it serves has an extension handle for my trolling motor, i can use the trolling motor while i'm standing anywhere on my rear deck (transom mounted trolling motor) #3 if you get stuck on a shallow bar, you can lay the pvc on the bottom under your skiff and "roll" the boat along over the pvc. works great! two pieces of pvc here would be the best! #4 poor man's power pole. just stick that pvc down in the bottom and tie a rope off to it! (of course it has to be shallow for the 3' piece to work) #5 works great to unhang stuck lures and plugs.

Great advice Slim, I'll have to add that to my growing list of "must have items" on the boat.

Yep. I keep a 6-7 foot length of 2" pvc in the boat for pushing me out of the shallows.

yea pvc will work as a push pole also. i use a 10' wood tree pole. some tree workers left it at my parents house, so i grabbed it. to elaborate on #5, if you cut a notch into the pvc pipe and use it to run down your line to unstick a stuck lure. i've said many rattletraps and rapalas redfishing this way.

PVC........the working mans friend. We have a CS 24, and bought a bimini for it; trouble was, I needed two more eight foot biminis to cover the passengers. After some "what if's", I made a base out of ordinary lumberyard 2X4's, with a few stainless pieces of hardware to tie into. Then, PVC arches. A few more pieces of PVC for longitudinals, velcro around the inside of the frame, and a cheap plastic tarp, cut down in size, with grommets added where needed. For under $200, we now have shade. Easily taken down, and stored, and a mosquito net that is tied under the frame, and velcro sealed, for camping out on bug infested rivers. Take the money you save, and use it to get things that you really need. Sunbrella fabric purchased from Sailrite, and marine grade grommets from the same source, are going to be made into a decent looking top, to replace the cheap plastic tarp.

have you been in the wind yet? I did something similar on a pontoon boat and the wind took it down. Tried conduit next and it held up pretty well.

011 Saw something similar to that up here in NJ. Seems to work. I like the tent idea......... 010

If I did that a big wind storm would blow up.

PVC is great stuff! Have you ever flared the ends to make rod hodlers? Shoot me an e-mail if you want to know how.

Start a thread on it. That's why we started this site, to help share idea's.... 013
