Well a friend and I (Ed) went out early Satuday morning and we had a pretty good day. Caught a few blues early in the morning right outside of Slocum and a few near the ferry. Came in around noon from the Hancock side and I wanted to hit one spot I heard was good on Slocum. I have never hit this spot before because I always forget about it until I am leaving. Well anyway we pulled into the spot and on the first cast WHAM. I landed my first slot drum. A nice 21" tagged drum. I called the number on the tag to get my free ballcap. Wooo Hooo!
Nothing compared to what some folks catch on this site but it was my first slot size and I was like a 5 year old on Christmas morning *010*

nice...congrats.
Drum are by far my most favorite inshore species. Can't beat the fight!
Outstanding Ed !!! I caught a 17 incher for a whole day's effort on Sunday. I knew it was a redfish when it hit my finger mullet and took off under my "not so light" drag. Was sure it was a mid-slot fish until the near incorrigible little sucker came up at the side of the skiff *kickrock* I'm gonna remember that guy for a while ;D
Thanks for the call yesterday and the tip on the shrimp still hanging around *thumbsup* Took Bob (o2bfishn) and some of his family out to Hancock last night, where we netted 3 or 4 pounds of cholesterol for them to have for lunch today *Woot*

Glad you were able to scoop some more shrimp out of the creek.
Here is a pic of my first keeper.

What a beautiful color! I have only caught a couple of small redfish around here, and I don't recall them being that colorful.

Congrats on your first red!
They are fun to catch and pull harder than any other fish you'll find in the creeks. *Cheers*

nice catch ed! congrats on the first redfish!*Woot* that's some good eatin' right there!*yay**thumbsup*
marty- down here in florida our shallow water redfish have that dark bronze color from the sun and the offshore fish are almost white in some areas. then you have the young "rat" reds that have a very colorful blue in their tails. redfish are my favorate fish, no question about it!

I've often heard that their tails turn that blueish color when they are heavily feeding...anyone else ever heard that? I've caught several slot fish that have blue tips and many more that don't.....?

hmm...that's new to me. but you do learn something new everyday. most of the blue tailed redfish i catch are smaller, 20" and under. i have yet to catch a big redfish that had a blue tail. but they could be out there!

They get a tan!!
I have only caught a few out in the bay and one off a pier, and they were pale by comparison.
After seeing LynnInletFisher's report on the red activity around here, I need to make time to get after them.

I read somewhere that the blue in their tail gets more pronounced when they are eating alot of crustaceans(shrimp and crabs).*006*
I've also noticed that the fish caught in the ocean are much paler than those caught up the rivers. The ones in the river get a deep bronze and copper color. *017*
