This is a sweet message board, seems like everyone on fishin.com are a**holes. Theres lot of good advise here, and thanks to all of you so far whom have helped me.
So a little about me..
Its safe to say fishing is my life. Im from Southern, Indiana. I have cystic fibrosis and underwent a double lung transplant at the University of North Carolina in Feb. 2004. I was named OLN's All-Time Courageous 25 #19 as Extreme Angler. Winner of the 2003 Redbone Cape Fear Red Trout Classic at Wilmington, NC, American Crappie Association Regional Qualifer 2007. When Im not on the water I'm usually after monster bucks in the fall bowseason.
I havent yet got a Carolina Skiff. I cant decide between a dlx or dlv. For now Im stuck with my 17ft. Alum bass boat.
Best Wishes, Big Fishes

:D All I can say is welcome aboard and keep on pluggin......nice bass, looks like a real nice lake your on too, monster buck sound good toooooo :o.....Right now I have an older 17' modified V CS. Not going to upgrade just yet, but the room factor of the dlx would be swaying me, but the ride is smoother in the DLV. Opinions are not hard to come by here, and I'm sure you will get many pros and cons on both. Happy deciding to ya. Willie

Welcome Naturesfly.
Its good to see someone who has overcome adversity to get back to the things he loves!!
You will have lower freeboard, shallower draft and more interior room on the DLX. You will have larger decks, more storage, higher freeboard and slightly deeper draft with the DLV.
Welcome Naturesfly!
Thats an awesome post and I think I can safely say for everyone that we are glad you signed up. I think you will add significantly to our growing forum with your knowledge and experiance, we are lucky to have you!
I agree with Fillet1 on the difference between the DLX and DLV. The only thing I might add, I think you'll have a slightly better and dryer ride in a DLV.

Thanks for the comments, Im honored to be a part of the board with such great members.
I got to see a 2008 1780 DLV with a 70 fs. Suzuki last night. Chatlee wanted 15, 695 after some rebates. Anyways, it was a very impressive boat. Two large livewells in the rear deck, and as Fillet1 said, LOTS of storage in the bow. I got in and checked it out, and now my boat current boat feels like a minnow compared to this shark! It did seem to me that it had deeper sides and less room than a DLX, but the fit and finish (added intergrated hinged bow lids, the nearly completly concelled rear deck) make this a very eye appealing boat. Decisions-Decisions!
Its a bit much for the crappie fishing my style which requires manuevering it around in the woodwork, but it would be great chasing stripes, cats, sauger, white bass on the Ohio River (my other home) but in NC where I might stay it would be fine stripers and maybe fishing at the coast.
Im going out with Capt. Fisher Culbreth of Wilmington this coming week. He has a 1980 dlx and I look forward to seeing how the flat bottom performs.

Sorry,
I usually check the new posts only when I come on here. I might have seen it when you originally posted it.
Anyway I just saw it, Looks nice. I think you said it's 5' tall ? That's from the top of the gunnel right ?
Trying to get an idea what how these are setup, and what they sell for. I never had a bimini before, always went topless..... ;D
Are the mounting brackets and everything you need to install it included, or did you wind up using it with your new top ?
PS,
Where is Suffolk Va ?

All hardware is included. It is nothing but 2 tracks and 4 eylets for the straps
to attach to. It is 5 foot from the gunnel.as you can see in the pic it is really
a simple design. folds down and out of the way when not in use.
new these sell for 400.00 up. This one is made for a C/S ant is too wide for
many other boats. If you are interested I am sure we can agree on a price.
This can't ship UPS due to its size, it would have to ship motor freight.
Suffolk Va. is 10 miles from the N.C. line in South East Va.
We are part of the area called Hampton Roads. 45 minutes from Va Beach.
The Va / Md State line is 2 1/2 hours away (depending on the traffic on 64.
You have to cross the Ches bay Bridge Tunnel which is Hwy13 and I live on
Hwy 13.
