Anyone near Ft Pierce area? I get down there once a year to visit my parents. I also take a 3-4 day trip to the keys every year usually to sailfish. My Bro in law is a charter capt in Islamorada.
I live in Orlando but go to the Keys twice a year, untill this year I stayed in Islamorada. When do you usually go?

I am fishing a tournament in Stuart this weekend (my 5th year). Love to fish the St Lucie inlet with live bait for large snook, or you can fish under the Roosevelt Bridge and work the bottom for MONSTER snook....but be prepared. Last year one of my friends fished that spot with a DOA TerrorEyes and caught several snook over 40", including one that was 48". Here is one I caught in the St. Lucie inlet...

Snook season is closed for this tourney, which is a catch-photo-release only, so make sure you know the regs......
If you are interested in a little offshore stuff, sailfish are HOT this time of year out of Ft Pierce, and also Permit as well as snook on a spot called "the Boils" (outflow of the Ft. Pierce Power Plant). The inlet to the power plant on the river side also holds nice schools of large tarpon, this is just a baby....

Good luck, heading out Thursday AM for Ft Pierce and will be back Monday evening.....

Thanks and will do....Mostly a fun tournament for charity, so no high expectations.

Just got back last night, and fell asleep after hardly sleeping for 4 days, lol....
Didn't do much for the tourney, bait was everywhere, but couldn't get it to go for a sabiki, and was too deep for the castnet as well. Tried artificial, but by the time we gave up trying to get bait, we had missed the bite. It was strictly for fun and charity, and the weather was beautiful, so I'm not complaining.
Fished lighted docks at night and had some luck with the snook, although I need to upgrade my hooks as I had 2 break, and 2 straighten out (and these are NOT wimpy hooks). TrimTab tried to get his first snook, and on Sunday night had one I swear would be close to, if not over 50 inches long (at first I thought it was a shark), but the snooks rough lips went right thru his 30 lb leader (which looked like someone took a belt sander to it). He is still "snookless", but has felt the pull of a couple and is now totally addicted.
Will have to get out and fish locally again to see if there is anything to report.

Thanks for the report chumhead! Any time spent on the water is a good time, whether you catch something or not!
